Test / Wimbi 10, a semi-rigid that benefits from being tried

The W10 is the latest model from Wimbi Boat, an Australian RIB brand with outboard, inboard and fishing versions. Presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the W10 is the largest model of the shipyard and proves to be comfortable both at anchor and while sailing.

The Wimbi 10 the largest model of the australian RIB brand euros was unveiled at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 6-11, 2016). This semi-rigid of 10.50 m was designed on the same hull as the W9 with a Mediterranean, farniente and leisure program. The layout has been improved compared to the W9 following customer feedback to improve the comfort of the boat.

The W10 is declined in 2 euro models as the whole range euros the W10 (outboard) and the W10i (inboard) . The boats are the same, only the motorization differs.

W10i (inboard version)
W10 (outboard version)

The boat is designed in hypalon orca neoprene with 6 independent inflatable sections in the tube. Underneath all the seats, there is storage space. All around the front part of the boat, handrails allow to secure the boat. Two armchairs face the saloon and cover a storage locker.

The central console can house a toilet (optional) thanks to a side access. The cockpit is protected from the spray by a plexiglass windscreen and has a double leaning post (or a bench seat with backrest as an option) that can be opened to house an optional kitchen kit (in the Luxury version).

The aft area is entirely dedicated to comfort with a large bench seat and a very large sundeck, which occupies about 1/3 of the deck area. A backrest separates the bench seat from the sundeck. In this space, we can recover the space of the engine hold (on the version, outboard) to make a small cabin which allows to make coasting for some days.

In the inboard version, a beautiful bathing platform with ladder allows easy access to the sea and convenient boarding. In the outboard version, there is also a small platform with a ladder on the port side.

Outboard version

We had the opportunity to test the inboard version of the W10 in the bay of Cannes, at the end of the day, by calm sea. The boat was equipped with a 430 HP gasoline engine and we were 6 people on board (the W10 is approved for 20 people).

As for consumption, we asked Hiro, our pilot, who told us "To sail 171 miles (the trip from Port Camargue), we made 33 knots while consuming 110 L/hr."

The maximum speed announced is 43 knots for the inboard version and 51 knots for the outboard version in 2X300 HP.

With its deep V hull, the W10 is very stable and smooth. We reached 35 knots without ever hitting. The hull absorbs shocks and the passage at sea is very pleasant. The boat responds well to changes in direction, without taking many angles. The W10 is a boat where you feel safe, a feeling accentuated by the cover that protects the entire aft cockpit.

In summary, the W10 is ideal for family use, as it allows for fast browsing while being very comfortable.

With the different packages offered, you can choose additional options to improve the comfort on board (essential, comfort or luxury version) and have w.c., lights under the platform, audio system, etc.
