Smartboat, resumption and repatriation of production in France

After a judicial liquidation in 2014, Smartboat was bought by Ronan Quintin, owner of a 23-footer. The boat, which underwent some modifications, was presented at the Nautic. The opportunity to meet the new director and to know the perspectives of the shipyard.

Smartboat was born five years ago from the will of its CEO, Edy Kardous. Right away, the shipyard made a good reputation for itself by offering open boats, with tight shapes and a modern and futuristic design. Equipped with a VPLP hull and a sailboat hull, the Smartboat is a very flexible boat, which glides on the water. "In 2009, this type of design was not very common, although today it is growing a lot." explains Ronan Quintin, who took over the construction site.

In 2014 however, the shipyard is put into judicial liquidation âeuros due in part to production problems. Then Ronan Quintin intervenes. Owner of a Smartboat 23 for 3 years, he learns of the bankruptcy of Smartboat and then contacts Edy Kardous. He buys the shipyard on 1 er september 2015.

The boats formerly produced in Poland, at Delphia, (and before that in Tunisia) will now be made in France. "I had the molds brought back to France for production in Lorient, at Sailwood" says Ronan. And it's not by chance since everything was calculated by the new CEO who wants to bring a more upmarket positioning to the boats. "The French production will allow to limit the production and each owner will be able to customize his boat according to his desires."

Revamped boats

Presented to the Nautic the Smartboat 23 has been redesigned. In the previous models, there was only a central console with seats. In the new version, the emphasis is on comfort. "We recreated a square in the back with seats." The range of fittings is also increasing, with the choice of Italian manufacturers. Finally, each boat can be customized: hull and upholstery colors, choice of steering wheel, fenders or console material.

To confirm this move upmarket and position his boat in another segment, Ronan Quintin decided to reduce production to create the rarity of the product and give it a more luxurious positioning. "Until August 2016, only 16 boats will be produced. In total, there will only be 24 boats built in December 2016, so it's a niche market."

The Smartboat 30 already existed in its prototype version, but had not been produced, due to the judicial liquidation. With a length of 8.99 m, it has the same layout as its little brother (walk-around) with central console. Except that there are two bright cabins (a double bed cabin [160 cm] and a mid-cabin) thanks to two long portholes hidden under the step. At the rear, the 125 cm berth is also illuminated by two opening portholes. Finally, a small bathroom houses a shower cabin.
