The great tides have begun

The first episode of high tide began last Wednesday and will last until February 22. This Friday, February 20, we expect a first high tide with a coefficient of 118, prelude to that of March 21, whose coefficient will be 119.

The high tides started this morning with a coefficient of 118. The Atlantic coastline and the Channel are particularly affected and the curious are already lining up to admire this rather exceptional event.

For the moment, nothing to deplore, even if all the western coastline has been placed in Yellow Vigilance, except for Morbihan, Côtes-d'Armor, Ille-et-Vilaine, Manche and Calvados, where the vigilance is at zero.

However, some municipalities have taken measures to mitigate the risk of flooding. All dread the Xynthia episode of 2010, where bad weather conditions had an impact on the high tides, creating the floods that everyone remembers. So you can see sandbags in front of garages, cellars, store windows, or other dams. The dikes were also raised.

The Wave Watch Plan

Météo France can trigger this vigilance plan and introduce restrictions in the department. Three colors are used:

Green : No particular vigilance.

Yellow be careful if you practice activities that are sensitive to weather risks.

Orange be very vigilant, dangerous phenomena are expected.

Red absolute vigilance is required, dangerous phenomena of exceptional intensity are expected.
