Stopover, the port of Loctudy (29)

Located in the estuary of the river of Pont-l'Abbé, opposite Ile-Tudy, the fishing port of Loctudy became in May 1991 an important marina of the Bigouden Country with 585 places.

The port of Loctudy is one of the first pontoon ports of call with fuel after passing the Raz-de-Sein, just a stone's throw from the tip of Penmarc'h.

The coast is lined with numerous reefs. The furthest offshore are marked by the "Cap Caval", "Spineg" and "Karek kreiz" buoys, as well as the "ar Guisty" turret. Coming from the west, approach Loctudy from outside the "Boulanger" and "Billien" buoys. Coming from the east, keep well clear of the Mousterlin rocks ("La Vache" and "Men Vraz" turrets).

Access is easy, even at low tide, and the channel is perfectly signposted. Remarkable for its black & white checkerboard, the Perdrix turret (no longer lit) marks the entrance to the river mouth. SHOM chart: 6649-7146.

Loctudy is first and foremost a small-scale fishing port, with its flagship product the langoustine, known as "La demoiselle de Loctudy". It was the home port of the Bugaled Breizh trawler, which sank at sea in controversial circumstances in January 2004.

On the yachting side, the visitor area can accommodate 40 boats on pontoon A (berths 15 to 55) and a further 25 inside the 100m-long heavy pontoon. The outside heavy pontoon should be avoided: it is not protected against swell. The port is a member of the "Passeport Escales" network, with 5 places available. For those who prefer buoys, the port has 50 lockers with a mooring service, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in summer only.

Bicycles are available free of charge from the Capitainerie. This is a great opportunity to discover the Church of Saint-Tudy, one of Brittany's most beautiful Romanesque churches. Walkers will enjoy the adventure of the GR 34, where they will discover fauna, flora and magnificent landscapes. Or perhaps you'd prefer to relax on one of Loctudy's long beaches, and enjoy a refreshing swim!

A local weather station, accessible via the Internet, allows you to consult port conditions. Real-time data such as atmospheric pressure, outside temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind direction and speed are available. This service is made all the more attractive by the port's free WiFi access.

Last but not least, we would like to emphasize the pleasant welcome we received from the port staff, despite the late docking time, and the cleanliness of the sanitary facilities.
