Sedna: Images of a Greenland raid on a sport catamaran

Sedna Goes Climbing from Tom Gautier on Vimeo.

More than a year after leading an unprecedented raid to Greenland with a small sports catamaran, Tom Gautier and Nicolas Marcillaud look back on their adventure in a video, sharing not only the beautiful images, but also the investment and psychological challenge of such an involved navigation.

An 18-foot catamaran expedition to Greenland

In the summer of 2022, Nicolas Marcillaud and Tom Gautier achieved the feat of reaching Greenland from Iceland on a catamaran of just 18 feet. Aboard their beach craft, they spent several weeks on their own, between outward and return crossings and their discovery of Greenland's peaks, the objective of this expedition trip combining sea and mountaineering.

A sensitive story

Almost 2 years after their voyage to the Far North, the two young men have published a 20-minute video about their trip. If they don't look back the technical preparation of the boat as they had done in our columns with the help of a team of experts, they deliver a beautiful account of this extraordinary navigation, between beautiful images of anchorages and bays full of icebergs with voice-overs and on-board testimonies filmed during the voyage. Watching the water pass over the submerged trampoline of an overloaded catamaran, it's easy to imagine the physical challenge of the voyage. But the message of 2 adventurous sailors, conveyed by the voice-over, is more sensitive and evokes the freedom sought by Tom Gautier and Nicolas Marcillaud, far from the image of the fearless sailor, but rather one filled with doubt.

A lovely testimonial, coupled with images of nature that we can't get enough of.
