Damen YS 53 Bad Company Support, a 53 m yacht for sport fishing

Damen Yachting has announced the delivery of the YS 53, Bad Company Support 175, the first model in this range. Designed for sport fisherman Anthony Hsieh, this 53-meter yacht will be dedicated to deep-sea fishing and conservation programs. Custom-built, it will accompany the Bad Company fleet on expeditions across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans.

The first model in a new generation of support yachts

Ordered in May 2022 by owner Anthony Hsieh, the YS 53 Bad Company Support from Damen Yachting has been delivered. This 53 m (175 ft) yacht is the first in the YS 53 range, introduced to the market in February 2022 as part of a strategic shift by the brand to create a new generation of support yachts. The design is inspired by the 17 support vessels previously built by Damen Yachting over the last decade. It is designed to be flexible and customizable to suit each owner.

Sport fishing and marine conservation missions

This boat, captained by a sport fisherman, is the latest addition to an already well-established fleet, named Bad Company. It will replace the owner's current 46-meter YS 4508 Yacht Support. The Bad Company fleet is renowned for its modern sport fishing missions, and is currently touring the world. In addition to deep-sea sport fishing, the owner is involved in a number of marine conservation projects in remote parts of the world, such as those launched by the Coastal Conservation Association of California.

The vessel's design and performance have been tailored to the owner's preferences. Bad Company Support 175 will not only serve as a fast support vessel for the fleet, it will also function as a hub for activities based in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, providing a technical and functional base for dedicated long- and short-term equipment and programs.

Customized features for life on board

The boat has been adapted to offer on-board living and accommodation facilities. It will accommodate a game boat, include a helicopter hangar, a custom-designed Jacuzzi, and a main deck lounge transformed into a strategic meeting room with Starlink connectivity. The helicopter will ensure easy transfers from the support vessel.

The YS 5301, also equipped with a 15-ton crane, is fully compliant with the IMO Tier III standard, which reduces harmful emissions from ships by 70%. Its two main engines deliver speeds of up to 19 knots.

A tour of the Mediterranean to validate the concept

The boat will now embark on a round-the-Mediterranean trip for fine-tuning, before heading for the Atlantic Ocean in the first year of operation. This will be followed by the Indian and Pacific Oceans the following year. The new vessel will also support two smaller fishing boats: a Release Game boat 43 and a 32-foot Blackfin. The latter, recently purchased and refurbished for this adventure, was the owner's first big-game fishing boat, over 30 years ago.
