From May 15 to 21, 2023, the European maritime heritage will meet in the Gulf of Morbihan for the 12th edition of the Gulf Week. An international cultural and maritime event in the 17 ports and municipalities of the Gulf with animations, exhibitions and concerts.

An event in a mythical setting

Every two years, Morbihan hosts the Gulf Week, a gathering of boats of character that are spread throughout the Gulf of Morbihan, offering a unique spectacle to sailors and spectators. Indeed, more than 1200 boats will sail in flotillas, from port to port.

The main highlights of the event will take place on May 15 and 20, during the opening and closing parades, which will bring all the ships together, along the current, from the entrance of the Gulf of Morbihan to the port of Vannes.

An international gathering

The boats of character coming from the French Atlantic coast are in majority, but the event also attracts in number those of the Mediterranean, the English Cornwall, the North Sea.

More than 1,000 boats are registered and divided into 10 homogeneous and identifiable flotillas: Yawls and sail and rowing boats, classic yachts, old fishing and working sailboats... as well as some thirty spectacular 20 to 40m sailing ships from the European maritime heritage.

Each day, each flotilla follows its own navigation program and stops each evening in a different port.

A popular maritime festival

Open to the general public free of charge, the Gulf Week is also an opportunity to discover and enjoy a whole range of activities for all ages:

  • Oyster tastings, grilled fish, local products
  • Model making and sailing models
  • Music in all forms (brass bands, jazz bands, Celtic music, choirs, folk and sea chanteys...)
  • Nightly shows and activities: concerts, festou-noz, popular dances and fireworks
  • Walking tours all along the coast for family walks.
