Dayboats to navigate in silence and enjoy the anchorage
The Lasai shipyard, whose Basque meaning is "calm", is installed near Bilbao in Spain since 2021. It specializes in the construction of open electro-solar hulls, after having tried its hand at a 9-person transport model in Majorca, the Lasai 20 TR. Today, he presents two models of 6.80 m and 5.99 m, the 20 GL and CR. These two dayboats have a similar design, clean lines, straight bow, hard-top covered with 700 watts of solar panels, but hulls adapted to their respective programs.
Same design, two different shells
The Lasai 20 GL was developed for coastal sailing, to reach an anchorage in silence. Its hull is equipped with a large step and spray rails. In contrast, the Lasai 20 CR is designed for inland navigation on lakes and rivers. Thus, its hull is marked only by a large step, without strakes, the navigation speeds being lower. Moreover, it does not have the large bathing platform, which explains the difference in overall length. Both models are approved in category C and can carry 6 people.
Engines adapted to the navigation program
The motorization is also different. In the sea version, the model is equipped with two Torqeedo outboard motors with a maximum power of 24 kW, or 12 kW each. The batteries have a capacity of 40 kWh and can be increased to 62 kWh. In this configuration, the Lasai GL has a cruising speed of 8 knots, a maximum speed of 12 knots and an approximate range of 10 hours.
For the Lasai CR, the engine chosen by the shipyard is a single Torqeedo 6kW motor associated with 20 kWh batteries. The shipyard announces a cruising speed of 5 knots and a maximum speed of 6 knots, with a range of about 8 hours. Thanks to the solar panels, solar energy provides about 30% of the battery recharge.
A simple deck layout
The deck layout is simple in both cases. Each model has a U-shaped bow bench seat, with the possibility of installing a table and sunbathing, and a central steering position with a bench seat - the latter has a common backrest with the bench seat facing the sea on the Lasai 20 CR. The rear of the boat is occupied by a rear bench seat on the Lasai 20 CR and by an imposing, very high sundeck on the Lasai GL. Finally, the GL model has a very nice swim platform.
Hidden outboard motors for safety and design
One of the characteristics of the range is to have outboard motors, but hidden. The shipyard told us it made this choice firstly for aesthetic reasons, to respect the boat's sleek design, but also to ensure passenger safety, as Luis Ponce de Leon, Lasai's marketing manager, says: "The engines run quietly, so you don't know if they're on or not."
On the coastal version, the two engines are hidden under the rear sundeck, hence the high trunk. In the CR version, the engine is hidden in a central trunk of the rear seat.
Rates
These two models will be marketed in 2023 at a price excluding VAT of 55,000 euros for the Lasai 20 CR and 85,000 euros for the Lasai 20 GL.
