Suzuki introduces its new generation of mechanically controlled outboard engines

Suzuki Marine introduces its new generation of DF115B and DF140B mechanically controlled engines for outboard boats from 5.5 m to 6.5 m. If the most important change concerns the compression ratio, let's discover all the optimizations made.

A sportier design for visual consistency

The new 4-cylinder DF115B and DF140B are the successors to the DF115BG and DF140BG, from which they nevertheless inherit certain concepts. The design is based on the electrically driven model launched two years ago with a sportier look and less angular lines and comes in two colors: black and white. They are offered with two shaft lengths, L or X.

Increased compression ratio for better top speed

The most significant improvement is the increase in the compression ratio from 9.7 to 10.6. This improves combustion efficiency and therefore provides better top speed, acceleration and thermal efficiency. The DF115B's efficiency improves by up to 6% at cruising speeds compared to its predecessor, while the DF140B gains up to 7% over a medium to high speed range.

They are also equipped with "Lean Burn Control" technology that predefines fuel requirements according to navigation conditions.

A new design of semi-direct air intake structure

The structure of the semi-direct air intake has been redesigned to better separate water. The air flow is introduced directly into the intake manifold preventing water mixing. The fuel water detection system has been improved with a larger and more accessible filter.

Interior modifications

inside, the drive head is shifted to the front, which shifts the center of gravity of the engine and stops vibrations, makes the engine more compact and stabilizes the steering. A microplastic receiver has also been integrated as on the other models. The mounting angle of the throttle position sensor has been modified as well as the alternator output which allows a higher efficiency at idle and low speed compared to the DF140A.

For ease of maintenance and optimum performance, direct ignition technology with coil integration on the spark plug caps simplifies wiring and optimizes the ignition spark for better combustion. The new ventilation system ensures better cooling of the coils.

In the optimized base housing, the oil access has been modified, the gear pinion generates a negative pressure which favors the circulation of the lubricant. This new base housing reduces the oil temperature and allows the gears to cool down, thus extending their service life.

Easy maintenance and noise reduction

The oil filter is now easily accessible by removing the cover. A collector has been added around the filter to collect spills during oil changes and the oil level gauge is now compatible with a 15 mm suction drain hose.

Finally, intake noise is reduced thanks to the resonator that attenuates the engine's sound presence.
