Return to Class40
If he is following with enthusiasm the construction of his new IMOCA boat for the Vendée Globe, which will be launched in early 2023, Yoann Richomme is still a sailor. And the Route du Rhum is a race that cannot be ignored for a sailor of his caliber. Especially since he is the title holder in Class40 since 2018. It is therefore quite natural that he will take the start of the transatlantic race on November 6, 2022 in Class40. A program compatible with the construction of an IMOCA and which will allow him to sail solo again, his last solo race dating from 2019 on the Solitaire du Figaro.
Lombard plan to be launched in summer 2022
It is on a plan Lombard euros sistership of Captain Alternance (Keni Piperol) queguiner-Innoveo (Corentin Douguet) and Crosscall (Aurélien Ducroz) currently under construction at the Lalou Multi shipyard that the team has decided to build. It is the same architectural firm that had designed its Class40 in 2018, and in the same timings.
"Class 40s are very interesting and competitive boats. There are analogies with the IMOCA boats", deciphers Yoann. "Even if they don't have foils or a canting keel, they have similarities as do all the electronics on board. It's a good stepping stone before we start our IMOCA program."
The Class40 Paprec-Arkea will be launched this summer, but Yoann Richomme has already started training with Corentin Douguet. It must be said that the Class40 field is particularly strong, with talented skippers and recently launched boats. But Yoann Richomme intends to win again on this new Route du Rhum.
A new owner after the Route du Rhum
Although Paprec-Arkéa has recently been structured to manage long-term sailing projects, the idea is to focus on the IMOCA for the time being. The boat will be sold after the transatlantic race. And given the dynamism of the class, it should quickly find a new owner.
