After the postponement of the sailing events on Tuesday August 3, the final of the 470 Men and Women . While the French men's team finished in 11th place overall (out of 19), the French women won the bronze medal. This is the second Olympic medal for Camille Lecointre and the first for Aloise, for her first participation in the Olympics.
Second in the ranking before the Medal Race, Camille Lecointre and Aloïze Retornaz did not manage to overtake the British team, which won the gold medal. The Polish team completed the podium with the silver medal. In the ranking, the Polish and the French have the same number of points but the first ones had a better ranking on the final event.
" It is a lot of emotion to be an Olympic medalist! The joy! It is an Olympic medal! I dreamed so much of this moment that it was too much emotion. At the beginning we had a big feeling of surprise and incomprehension, that's why we complained, but the jury decided, it's the game now we enjoy our bronze medal. We gave everything! An Olympic medal is still an Olympic medal and it's an amazing thing!" explains Aloïze Retornaz.
" Our first reaction is a little bit of disappointment because this morning we were in second place and we knew that it was going to be very complicated because gold was almost impossible and we had a lot of competitors chasing us. We knew that it was not going to be easy and it was decided until the last meters before the finish. I am very happy, I was very moved on the podium, it is there that we realize, that we savor the moment", Camille Lecointre.
The final ranking was determined after the validation of the jury, following a complaint by the French on a maneuver of the British. The jury did not follow up, judging the maneuver as not being unfair.
With the bronze, the French Sailing Team wins its 3rd Olympic medal on these Games of Tokyo 2020, after silver for Charline Picon and Thomas Goyard in windsurfing .
