A ratchet for Profurl Nex furlers

In 2010, Profurl launched its furler for flying sails (gennaker, Code 0, solent, staysail.). It comes for the 2020 season in a new version with a ratchet that makes it easier to use.

The Nex furler distinguishes itself from the competition by a large-sized wafer that offers more strength to roll up. The line also has a system that disengages it when the sail is unfurled. This limits the risk of accidents and reduces wear and tear.

These characteristics mean that this furling system is widely used on offshore racing yachts from the Mini 6.50 to the IMOCA via the Multi50s. But it is also widely used on cruises. Only he was missing one detail to improve the product.

The ratchet!

The Profurl design office has added a ratchet system under the wafer to block the winding. This prevents the sail from unfurling during the furling operation. This ratchet works in both directions, so you don't have to think about rolling your gennaker in the furling direction. The ratchet works for both.

To release the ratchet, simply pull strongly on the line: a sharp jerk. The sail can then be unfurled. It's simple and effective.

For users who do not wish to use this lock, it is possible to remove the pawl installed under the wafer (it is held by 2 screws).

The whole range, 7 models for sails up to 350 m2, is now equipped with this ratchet called Furlassist.
