Eryd 32, the rebirth of a range of Italian-style daysailers

Eryd 32

After the launch of two models in the 2000s, Eryd Yacht ñ a brand of the naval architecture firm Emanuele Rossi Yacht Design ñ suffered from the crisis that hit Italy in 2010. 2019 marks the renewal of these elegant Italian daysailers with the launch of the Eryd 32.

ERYD - Emanuele Rossi Yacht Design - is an Italian naval architecture firm that also builds its own daysailers under the brand name ERYD Yachts. In 2006, the Eryd 30 - a very elegant 9m sailboat with sleek lines - was launched before being joined in 2010 by the Eryd Open - an innovative 8.70m design.

Unfortunately, the launch of this second model also coincided with the beginning of the 2010 crisis, which hit Italian boating hard. "It was a very interesting model and many people showed interest, but the Italian market was at a standstill, explains founder Emanuel Rossi. " Until 2015, we therefore preferred to concentrate on our design activity rather than on boat building, even if we still sold a few daysailers during these years."

A new and improved model, a synthesis of the two previous ones

But the site is about to be revived with the launch of a new model, the Eryd 32. A project carried out by a shipowner who "supports them gave the desire and the pretext to relaunch the range."

The Eryd 32 is a synthesis of the two previous models with "Eryd 32" lines contemporary, more contemporary design and a wider hull." It retains the elegant lines of the Eryd 30, adopts the innovations of the Erid 30 with the possibility of changing the cockpit configuration according to the program and takes up the characteristic lines of the range, but offers a more sporty aspect. "An improved concept."

A new hull

The cabinet worked on the hull and appendages with the help of C.F.D. (Computational Fluid Dynamics) programs to obtain a hull that was both very fast and stable. It has also been extended to 2.80 m to ensure better shape stability and more power.

"At the time, all daysailers had narrow hulls to be transportable. But my experience has shown me that few customers carry their boats. So I chose to widen the hull, and make it more modern and sporty."

This wider hull, combined with the step from bow to stern, aims to reduce friction at high speed downwind and ensure a good reserve of stabilité?/power in the wind. The waterline width was designed to be low to ensure performance even in light winds.

A light but robust construction

The standard version of FYRYD 32 is made by infusing unidirectional and bidirectional fabrics made of glass, epoxy resin and corecell. An all-carbon version is available on request. It is in this "special" version that the first model will be produced. The daggerboard is made of composite steel with lead-antimony bulb and the bisafrans inclined at 18° for a maximum efficacité? at the lodge. The mast, boom and bowsprit are made of carbon.

The spreaders have an angle of 30° and the mast should not need backstay. However, for a more sporty use, and in order to optimize performance, the firm recommends the installation of a backstay in dynema.

As a standard tiller version, the Eryd 32 can be equipped with two optional wheel steering systems.

If the boats were previously built in Poland, this new daysailer will be 100% made in Italy, built in the yard on Lake Garda.

A modular layout

The cockpit is spacious and incorporates the principle of modularity as seen on the Open 30. "It is possible to change the configuration of the cockpit by installing and removing up to 4 benches to adapt the boat to its sailing program. You can also install only two of them, or adapt them to the regatta and easily store them under the deck.

The bench fastening system has been optimised both in terms of functionality and aesthetics with the design and development of specific parts for FYROM 32. Inside, there is enough space to store accessories or sails. Different layout options can be studied and customized according to the specific needs of the customer.

At the front, there is the possibilité? to have a large cushion - sunbathing or, optionally, a teak deck.

In the standard version, the sail settings are designed to be simple with a fixed point for the mainsail hoist and self-steering jib. Different options include a mainsail carriage, and a barber-inhauler for a jib at 110% of J.

Construction and presentation

"The moulds are under construction and will be completed by the end of March. Construction will start in April." If the first boat has the lines of the Eryd 32, it is in its special version that we will discover it. "It will be an all-carbon custom version." Because, many options will appear on the price list to customize his Eryd 32.

Perhaps we will have the chance to discover this little gem in Cannes. "If this first model were presented in its standard version, it would have been safe, but with a custom version, nothing could be less safe. We are working on many studies."

In its standard version, the daysailer should be sold from 110?000 ? HT with GV and furling jib.
