The B27, the art of daysailing

Performance and advanced technology, stunning design, the B27 is a perfect prestigious daysailer. To target a luxury market, the Austrian shipyard B-Yachts has chosen top-of-the-range materials such as carbon and teak. Designed as an object of art, it attracts all eyes.

At the bend of the aisles of the Düsseldorf show, the B27 from the Austrian shipyard B-Yachts stands out for its elegance. Sitting in the middle of large luxury yachts such as the Solaris and CNB sailboats, you can feel that it is aimed at a wealthy clientele.

Long and fine in its grey colour with a deep shine, it is only 27 feet long, yet impressive. The design is extremely simple, the freeboard at the lowest level and you can't help but put your hand on your teak deck or imagine yourself aboard the cockpit as huge as it is sober. The icing on the cake is that its dimensions are in line with the road gauge (2.40 m wide and 1.7 tonnes).

A "little luxury dayboat"

While the finishing and marketing are carried out in Austria, the manufacture of the hull and deck is subcontracted in Slovenia to Ocean Tech, renowned for its expertise in composite materials.

The B27 takes the entry-level place alongside the B33 released in 2016. The designer Lorenzo Argento (to whom we also owe the Bénéteau First 53) was responsible for the design of this Today, size is no longer a barrier to development and there are "small" dayboats perfectly equipped to spend a good time on the water. So, what are the essential elements to have a good time on eau?? Here's what you can't do without if you enjoy entertaining your friends and spending long periods at sea. luxury dayboat as explained by the shipyard's founder, Michael Gilhofer. Before adding" B-yachts are intimate and comfortable, and are easy to handle because they have the technology of a maxi-yacht."

The elegance of the gesture

The sailing programme is a combination of sailing and idleness: pulling a close upwind tack by titillating the wind oscillations or enjoying a glass of Prosecco, comfortably seated with your guests in the cockpit lounge. The B27 is designed for inland waterways, rivers or sheltered bays. An electric motor is also available, where regulations prohibit the use of internal combustion engines.

When faced with such a design object, one cannot help but think of a beautiful sports car or a work of art.

Easy to handle

The B27 has fun taking on the appearance of a racing yacht even if everything is designed to make it easier to use and the pure pleasure of leaving your wake on the water (preferably calm). This hedonist boat is designed to be quick to set up and handle, even solo if you equip it with an autopilot. "The architects have sought to make a boat that sails quickly and easily." explains Michael.

Yacht technical solutions on a small dayboat

Technology is omnipresent in the choice of materials and design, but the architecture is traditional: the boat is narrow and very weighted.

To position itself in a top-of-the-range niche, B-Yachts chooses prestigious and rare materials. The B27, is equipped with a hull and deck made of carbon sandwich and Corecell foam. These noble materials with exceptional mechanical characteristics are usually reserved for racing boats. The architects explain that the choice of carbon allows the sailboat to be decorated with a sublime - and very heavy - teak deck without compromising performance. The carbon rigging does not require backstays to clear the cockpit.

The B27 being very narrow, it will rely on ballast stability rather than shape stability. Indeed, its ballast ratio (boat weight/weight of ballast) is almost 50%. But, even better, the construction of the keel gives it a very low centre of gravity, which increases its efficiency tenfold. The latter is composed of a Weldox steel sail (reduction in profile thickness, weight gain and mechanical resistance) and a torpedo-shaped lead ballast.
