European Powerboat of The Year 2019: five family models for long weekends at sea

Here are the 5 nominees in the 25 to 35 foot category of the European Powerboat of The Year 2019. Models of boats or helmsmen equipped with one or more cabins to spend a long weekend at sea, or even a holiday on the water.

In this 25 to 35 foot category, boats must be able to spend a holiday on the water, but also have a layout adapted to family sailing. These boats are often used during the summer holidays. This is why their main characteristic is the layout and distribution of the space.

The models presented will nevertheless be more suitable for a weekend at sea, especially for families. Even if you find a cabin in the Beneteau Flyer 8 Sundeck, it would be hard to imagine spending a whole week there. In this game, it is better to favour "livable" models such as the Merry Fisher 1095 or the Targa 27.2.

Buster Phantom Cabin

The Phantom Cabin from the Nordic shipyard Buster, which specialises in aluminium boats, is the largest model ever produced (9.47 m). Based on the Phantom open hull, this helmsman makes it possible to envisage longer periods at sea. The interior is minimalist, but functional and above all very bright.

In terms of motorization, it is possible to choose between a single or a double outboard (300 - 600 HP). Both options offer you a long range thanks to the 800-litre fuel tanks. With its Nordic look and family layout, the Buster Phantom Cabin is no less fast, capable of reaching 53 knots.

Flyer Beneteau 8 Sundeck

The Flyer 8 is a dayboat of less than 7 m in length and is available in two versions. The Sundeck version has a double cabin and allows you to consider a weekend at sea when the Spacedeck version (open hull) is presented as more versatile. But it is indeed the first version that is nominated for the title of European Motorboat of the Year 2019.

Both models share a similar deck layout from the cockpit to the cockpit, with a straight rear bench seat, with the backrest tilting to the rear for sunbathing. The Flyer 8 Sundeck has a large sunbathing area on the foredeck, which covers a rather spacious double cabin with a saloon that turns into a double bed, a separate toilet cabinet and an interior kitchen with fridge and sink.

Bénéteau has chosen the single-engine engine to meet the market trend: 350 HP max with a speed of around 40 knots.

Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1095

The Merry Fisher 1095 is a 10.5 m weekend, designed for a family sailing programme and features a new hull specially designed to accommodate an outboard engine. The Merry Fisher 1095 features the same features that have made the range so successful, but also innovations. Starting with the 3 cabins. Outside, there are many comfort elements to maximize living spaces. And in particular the modular cockpit principle with a sunbathing area that moves backwards to the rear to enlarge the space. On the engine side, the Merry Fisher 1095 will receive 2x300 hp.

Nimbus Weekender 9 Outboard

This 9 m long daycruiser is the first model in Nimbus Yachts' Weekender range. It receives a cabin to accommodate 4 people to sleep. This model features the lines of the Nimbus range with this pinched bow, but also the characteristics of the old 26 DC model. Easily recognizable design elements include the interior layout, which has many similarities to the 26 Epoca and 32 Ballista, the wide front deck for added safety and ease of boarding and disembarking, characteristic of the Max II, the side windows of the 22 Spectra, the power roof design of the 305 Drophead and the step shell introduced into the Nimbus family with the R series in 2000. The W9 can be equipped with an inboard or outboard motor and reaches a maximum speed of 40 knots.

Targa 27.2

The first version of the Targa 27 was launched in 1991 and has been one of the best-sellers of the Nordic shipyard since its launch. After 11 years of loyal service and nearly 200 units built, the second generation was launched with the Targa 27.1. 400 new units were built and it was time to launch a new version with the 27.2. This new model follows the same concept as the rest of the range with its walk-around deck layout, flybridge and sliding side doors. It also features the same design as the latest Targa models.

The wheelhouse is more spacious in width and length, with 4 berths in the aft cabin and a toilet in the front. The hull, which has excellent sailing qualities, has been preserved.
