A new IMOCA for Alex Thomson for the Vendée Globe 2020

The English skipper Alex Thomson, who finished second in the 2016/2017 Vendée Globe - just behind Armel le Cléac'h - has just announced the construction of a new boat for the next edition in 2020. A rumour that has persisted since the start of the year and is now official.

The next edition of the Vendée Globe, which will take place in 2020, will see many IMOCA construction projects flourish. Jeremie Beyou (Charal), Charlie Dalin (Apivia Mutuelle), Sébastien Simon (Arkéa-Paprec) or Armel Tripon (the sponsor is not yet known)... And they are not the only ones, as Alex Thomson - the emblematic British skipper and second in the 2016/2017 Vendée Globe - has just announced the launch of a new IMOCA project for the next edition.

The next Hugo Boss boat has been designed by the VPLP design team, in collaboration with the Alex Thomson Racing technical and design team led by Peter Hobson. The construction will start as soon as possible.

The announcement comes six months after the renewal of the partnership between Hugo Boss - its long-time sponsor - and the UK-based Alex Thomson team.

"This is an extremely important time for us. Everything we do over the next few months is leading us to the 2020 Vendée Globe and it is therefore essential to put in place a team that has the expertise and passion to deliver. I am convinced that we are on the right track. We sincerely believe that with the right mindset and the right boat, we can become the first British team to win the Vendée Globe" explained Alex Thomson.

VPLP is responsible for the last two boats to win the Vendée Globe, starting with Macif (in the hands of François Gabart in 2012) and Banque Populaire VIII (Armel le Cléac'h in 2016).
