XO Explorer, a boat to explore the world

The XO Explorer is the new model of the Finnish brand, launched with great pomp at the Boot Düsseldorf with hard rock music in the background! A model to explore the world, designed to live in and out, even in bad conditions, with a walk-around layout for easy movement on board. Designer Jarkko Jämsen explains the innovations on board and how he designed this boat.

This 9.9m weekend is a return to the origins for XO Boats. " We listened a lot to the comments of the owners of 270 to design this new boat. We were inspired by the world of safari and Indiana Jones with actor Harrison Ford. A boat that embodies freedom and nature. It's a boat designed to explore the world." explains Finnish designer Jarkko Jämsen during the visit of the boat.

The Explorer is therefore a robust boat, capable of sailing in the most turbulent seas and is fully equipped for a small coastal navigation or a short cruise of a few days. The wheelhouse is spacious with a completely unobstructed 360° view. At the bow, the XO Explorer has a double cabin with a bathroom with shower. Webasto heating and optional air conditioning complete the comfort equipment.

The aft wheelhouse window opens completely to create a single large space with the wheelhouse and cockpit, which can be completely protected by a soft bimini with side guards. " The central glazing above the kitchenette folds completely onto the roof to open up the space completely. To go fast or simply to enjoy the silence, just close the window" says the designer. "There is no transition between inside and outside. You can move all around the boat, despite the centre console. We've made sure to design a walk-around layout from the cockpit to the cockpit." adds Jarkko Jämsen.

The aft wheelhouse bench seat tilts forward and aft to form a dining area with a table that folds out of the kitchenette. In the cockpit, the aft right-hand bench seat moves forward and backward for easy access to and raising of the engine. The kitchenette acts as a separation between the interior and exterior with induction hob, sink and refrigerator. A second refrigerator is located at the front of the boat.

The cockpit is equipped with two seats with shock absorbers for the greatest comfort. "We've worked on an ergonomic driver's station so that we can drive standing up comfortably, but also sitting down thanks to the shock absorbers." details Jarkko Jämsen. To move easily on board, the two seats are completely lowered, both to avoid being hindered in driving, especially when there are bad conditions, but also to move easily in the boat. On the sides of the wheelhouse, the fabric covers of the side lockers can be converted into seats or a bunk (like a cot), or a table. A door on the port side at the front of the wheelhouse provides access to the foredeck via a recessed gangway.

A selection of premium equipment is available on this model: Simrad's dual navigation system, automatic trim control and Zip Wake bow thruster are just some of the many features available. The Naviop iLoop system provides digital control of all boat systems (fuel, speed, levels etc.).

Like the entire XO range, the Explorer has a thin aluminium hull which gives it excellent sea passage. With its V-deep hull, the dayboat cuts the waves to sail comfortably and stably.

The XO Explorer receives up to 2x350 hp (and from 2x250 hp onwards) with joystick and reaches a maximum speed of 46 knots. The boat has a range of 3,000 to 3,5000 miles. The price is between 330,000 and 347,000 euros including tax depending on the engine package chosen and including the Premium Pack. With a twin outboard 350 HP Mercury Verado outboard motor and a joystick, the price is 347 000 euros including tax.
