Tringa Boat, a boat that runs on the road

A boat with wheels?! That's the concept of the Tringa Boat, a 2.06m dayboat approved for road use and marketed in 2018. Even if the principle may seem far-fetched, we were rather seduced by the quality of construction and finishes of the Tringa Boat discovered at the Nautic 2017. We met Guirec Daniel, her designer, who told us more about this project, which he hopes will be the first model of a future range.

Resolve the port slot defect

Guirec Daniel is a seasoned boater, from a family of sailors, for whom navigation has no secrets. He then came up with the idea of creating a specific boat for people who live on the coast and whose house has direct access to the water. This is how he came up with the concept of the Tringa Boat, a motor boat equipped with wheels to be able to drive on the road. "The idea is to turn his home into a marina and offer a storage solution for his boat for 30 years." he explains. A solution for boaters who do not have a harbor nearby or a place to stay.

With his boat, Guirec also shows that in France, we innovate! " I wanted to produce something different, to participate in the recovery of the French industry." he explains. It is thus after 7 years of development and a registered patent that we discover the Tringa Boat, which requires both a car license and a boat license.

A boat... that looks like a boat

From the outside, the Tringa looks like a real boat - except for its three tires encased in waterproof chambers. "It's a hydraulic and mechanical performance. I filed a patent for this system, which is inspired by aircraft landing gear." explains Guirec.

You can access the boat through the cockpit, which can be closed with a bar and on the back of which there is a shower with a 30 L drinking water tank. 2 seats are inserted in the back structure with backrest and safety belt of course!

The cockpit has road seats with suspension, so the seat part folds down for standing up. This gives you a clear view of the horizon. Under the two seats - adjustable in length - is a large cooler.

The steering console is equipped with an automatic gearbox with a forward and reverse function. "You have to remember to take your wheels out and in before entering or exiting the water." says Guirec. A manipulation which is done quickly, by pressing a button.

A camera under the bow allows to send back an image of the blind spot under the bow to the screen of the GPS/sounder combination. The Tringa also has all the regulatory equipment for driving: turn signal, lights, horn, GPS switch, road approved windshield, wipers, mirrors..

A large glove compartment and a 12-volt socket complete the console's equipment. For the marine side, the console can receive a fixed VHF and has a compass. The throttle is easily accessible, installed between the two helm seats.

On the foredeck, the Tringa Boat is equipped with a bench seat on the front of the console. Underneath, there is a trunk, which can be used as a toilet. In the bow there is a second bench seat with a large storage space and access to the code lights. The anchor locker is of good size with a tilting davit. As an option, a table or an extension can be added to transform the whole into a sunbathing area. The cockpit is protected at the front and at the back by a very covering bimini.

Many options depending on the program

"The Tringa has many versions for fishing, boating or even water sports. All boaters can choose the version and equipment they need for their program" says Guirec.

In the camping version, the front deck of the Tringa can be used as a cabin with an awning and a canvas cabin, while a kitchen option is available at the rear with a fridge, a sink and a stove. " Everything you need to live 4 days in autonomy" says Guirec. The fishing version includes a custom-made livewell, an anodized bucket, and a cutting board, all in anodized aluminum.

Thermal engine and marine engine

The Tringa Boat can accommodate 4 people on the road and 6 adults or 4 adults and 4 children weighing less than 37.5 kilos when sailing. On the engine side, for the road, the boat has a 4-stroke gasoline engine (27 HP) under the console, which gives it a speed of 16 km/h, knowing that it covers 1 km in 4 minutes. On the sea, a 150 HP engine propels it to a speed of 33 knots.
