Collision in Bermuda, the British try to sink the Americans

During the training regattas on Tuesday 16th May 2017, Land Rover collided with Emirates Team New Zealand, inflicting damage on both boats. An accident that could have been prevented a few days before the launch of the 35th America's Cup.

The six teams competing for the America's Cup continue to train at training regattas on Great Sound, Bermuda. But this May 16, 2017, the training was particularly trying for Emirates Team New Zealand.

After participating in numerous races, the Kiwi team had a promising afternoon, winning the nine and ten races and placing ahead of Land Rover BAR and Groupama Team France

But as he competed in a duel with Land Rover BAR on the 12th race, the two boats collided, ending the race and causing damage on both sides

Kiwi helmsman Pete Burling gave more details about the accident "It's a shame it happened on the last pre-start. We were downwind on the starting line and Ben (Editor's note: Ainslie, skipper of Land Rover BAR) who was a little late, came straight at us" said Burling "Just useless a week before the America's Cup begins. We're all here to learn and it's a shame we now have a very big bump in the back of our pretty boat."

Land Rover BAR confirms that it has suffered damage to the bow and that repairs have begun as quickly as possible for the boat to return to the water on Wednesday 17 May.

Team New Zealand, who also expected to reach the race course quickly, was still in the repairs on the third day of racing (Wednesday).
