Barracuda 7, a real transportable sport-fishing

In 2011, Bénéteau launched its first Barracuda 7, a 7.39 m long helmsman, a renewed version of which was presented at the 2017 Düsseldorf Boot. It is on this new boat, which benefits from all the innovations of the previous models, and in particular the Barracuda 8, that the crews of the Barracuda Tour will be competing against each other.

In 2011, Bénéteau launched the Barracuda 9 (8.91 m), the first model in its new range dedicated to outboard motorized fishing. Since then, the sport-fisher range has been enhanced by two other models, the Barracuda 7 (which has just been renewed in 2017) and the Barracuda 8 (7.99 m). The new Barracuda 7 will be the basis for the Barracuda Tour The "No Kill Sea Bass Fishing Contest", organized by Bénéteau.

The Barracuda 7 is therefore the smallest model in the range, with an overall length of 7.48 m. It takes up the elements that have made the success of the Barracuda 8, launched in 2015, both in terms of design, concept - like the real fishing station - and innovations.

This new model is equipped with a new hull, inspired by that of the Barracuda 8 (AirStep 2 hull), thinner at the bow for a comfortable and stable sea passage. Another feature of the specification is that the Barracuda 7 is transportable, which does not affect the useful area of the cockpit. Offered with a maximum engine power of 200 hp, she will be satisfied with a power of 150 hp, which easily allows her to exceed 30 knots (with a 200 L tank for autonomy).

The boat is easily accessed via a starboard entrance, almost flush, from two beautiful skirts framing the outboard motor. The cockpit has the same layout as on the Barracuda 8, with a fishing station at the stern and folding bench seats to maximise cockpit space. In the fishing position, the space is clear and anglers can take advantage of several storage compartments (central locker) or fish trays (side lockers). A livewell takes place in the port side passageway supplied with regenerated seawater to preserve live fish or catches.

In relaxation mode, the cockpit bench seat is raised at the stern and the two other side benches, which coupled with the removable table, create a dining area.

As on the other models of the range, there are high catwalks for safe passage on board. At the bow, there is a second fishing area with a bench seat next to the wheelhouse and two removable bow side benches to provide more space.

There are several ways to access the wheelhouse. Either through the two side doors (starboard and port), as on older models, or from the cockpit through a 3 e sliding door. There is therefore a choice between two layouts: a side door version (for exiting on the side decks) with a bench seat at the stern of the closed wheelhouse or a 3-door version to facilitate movement. The wheelhouse remains straight and bright, characteristics that have made it a success. A sunroof ensures good ventilation.

From the cockpit (so in the 3-door version) there is a small kitchenette to starboard, covered by a bench seat, under which there is a sink and a space for the stove. A refrigerator under the pilot seat completes the set. A retractable table installed on the handrail can be lowered to create a dining area when the pilot and co-pilot seats are turned aft.

In the two-door version, a bench seat for 3 persons occupies the stern of the wheelhouse, with cushions and backrests. The galley is located under the bench seat and the refrigerator compartment under the co-driver's seat.

The cockpit is wider than on the previous model with a spacious dashboard to accommodate the navigation screens. It is equipped with two removable pilot and co-pilot seats. Despite the desire to keep an interior with a maximum of space, moving more than two people inside remains complicated. Nevertheless, the addition of a small, fully enclosed cabin, which contains both a toilet (marine toilet optional) or an extra double berth (optional), covering the space with cushions, is noteworthy.

The Barracuda 7 is offered with around 30 options, including state-of-the-art electronic equipment.
