Test / Merry Fisher 895, a modern helmsman who illustrates the concept of the weekend

Wheelhouse of the Merry Fisher 895

In September 2016, at the Cannes Yachting Festival, Jeanneau launched its new Merry Fisher 895, the largest model in the range with a length of 8.90m. We were able to test it in slightly choppy seas, equipped with two 150 HP engines and it turns out that it goes rather well at sea. Elegant, modern and ingenious, the Merry Fisher 895 is a perfect illustration of the weekender concept.

The Merry Fisher 895 is the latest addition to Jeanneau's wheelhouse range, already composed of 3 smaller models (605, 695 and 795). It replaces the Merry Fisher 855, which was launched 5 years ago and was a great success. It therefore takes up the same features as the Merry Fisher 855, but with a number of new features and innovations.

There are several ways to get on board. Either through the starboard bathing platform, on the same level as the cockpit, or through the side coupé door which allows access from a dock and leads to the secure recessed starboard gangway, to access the bow of the boat. Finally, you can climb aboard via the open foredeck, to which will be added (as an option) a delphiniere to be able to hang a swim ladder.

The cockpit saloon is available in several layout versions. As standard, there is a right rear bench seat. As an option, there is an L-shaped or U-shaped saloon with pieces of seating that can be installed on the port side and along the cabin glazing. A table completes the set and the whole can be transformed into a large sunbathing area. The aft bench seat slides forward to raise the engines.

In this space, there is also a large storage box which also houses two fuel tanks: 2x200L (standard version) or 2x300L (offshore version).

At the bow, the small sunbathing area can easily be transformed into a bench facing the sea.

The wheelhouse - closed at the stern by a 3-panel sliding door - is very bright and particularly well ventilated thanks to the window that opens to port, the two panels sliding on the roof and the side door of the cockpit. It also makes it possible to go out on the catwalk without having to cross the cabin.

On the port side, there is an opposite saloon for 4 people, which converts into an extra bed. The backrest of the forward seat can be folded down to become a co-pilot's bench seat for 2 persons. The pilot's chair is a bolster-type seat with the end of the seat up for sit-to-stand driving.

On the starboard side, the galley under the transom seat has a 2-burner gas stove and sink, as well as a 40 L refrigerator (under the pilot seat). Storage space completes the ensemble: drawer and cupboard.

Sleeping level, the Merry Fisher 895 has two double cabins that are brightly lit thanks to the side hull portholes and the skylight behind the windshield. The forward owner's cabin has a 1.80 m long central bed, which is extended to a length of 2 m by pulling it towards you. Under the mattress there is again a nice storage space (also accessible from a door). The guest cabin is also equipped with a double bed and several storage compartments. A bright and ventilated bathroom with marine toilet, sink and shower completes the night area.

The Merry Fisher 895 is available in two versions. As standard, it is equipped with a 300 or 350 HP single-engine or 2x150 HP twin-engine engine. The Offshore version is homologated in category B with a 2x200 HP twin-engine engine.

This small outboard helmsman is ideal for safe sailing with family or friends. It has enough space to spend a weekend at sea in comfort.

We were able to test the Merry Fisher 895 in its standard version with two 150 HP outboard motors in a slightly choped sea. Its top speed is 33 knots and its cruising speed is about 20 knots. At 5,000 rpm, a speed of 25.1 knots is reached with a consumption of 74.5 L/h. The best performance of 2.97 L/nautical miles is obtained at this speed. At 32.2 knots (6,000 rpm), the consumption is 111.3 l/h with an efficiency of 3.46 l/nautical mile.
