Adidas launches its swimsuit made of recycled oceanic plastic

After sneakers and football jerseys, Adidas is launching a new collection of clothing made from recycled plastic waste taken from the ocean: Parley Swimming. It is designed in collaboration with the NGO Parley Ocean Plastic and worn by the charming ambassador and defender of the oceans, Coralie Balmy.

Swimsuits made from recycled plastic from the oceans

Adidas launches its new collection of swimwear made from plastic and fishing nets recovered from the ocean. Parley Swimming was created in collaboration with the NGO Parley Ocean Plastic, a US ocean defense organization.

Like the jerseys made of recycled fibres for the football teams of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid as well as the ultraBoost sneaker these bathing suits will be made from Econyl a technical fiber. To design this material, the sports brand calls on an international network of NGOs that recovers used fishing nets and other plastic waste floating in the oceans. The raw materials are then transformed into Econyl nylon yarn, a fibre that can be recycled endlessly without loss of quality or performance.

"50% of all Adidas swimming textile products are made from recycled materials and 76% of the swimming pool collection includes recycled polyamide." explains the sports brand in a press release.

Parley Swimming comes with two designs: a wave print that refers to the origin of the swimsuits and a graphic inscription "Save our Oceans" inspired and created by the Parley teams.

A shock ambassador

To wear its collection of eco-friendly swimwear, Adidas called on a renowned ambassador, Coralie Balmy. Olympic champion (bronze medallist in the 4x200 m freestyle in 2012) and 2021 European champion in the 400 m freestyle, she is also a fervent protector of the oceans.
