Nautitech 46 Open, first sailing under sail

Just launched, the Nautitech 46 Open has made its first sail tacks. A catamaran designed by Marc Lombard in the tradition of his little brother the 40 Open.

After the Nautitech 40 Open, the Rochefort shipyard (now owned by Bavaria) took its first steps with the new Nautitech 46 Open. This model is a kind of 40 Open a little bodybuilder. On board, everything finds its place and traffic becomes more fluid.

The 46 Open takes up the concept initiated on the 40. The deckhouse bulkhead is advanced (reducing the volume of the saloon under the cabin) to increase the size of the cockpit. This outdoor space, protected by the rigid bimini, is equipped with a large table. The sliding glass windows disappear so that the saloon is naturally linked to the cockpit.

On the helm station side, this catamaran is equipped with 2 wheel steering systems installed at the rear of each hull. Just like what has always been done at Nautitech. This position is dictated by the desire to always keep an eye on the sail surface, whatever the tack. But this will soon change as the yard is preparing a new 46 Open model presented next September with a helm station installed on a flybridge. A revolution for the construction site!

Note the timid layout of the front with folding cushions to form a sunbathing area. It could be deplored that there is no real front cockpit developed by many other competing brands. But we appreciate this very marine choice, which consists in not overloading the front of the catamaran to limit pitching and promote performance under sail. The yard has not forgotten that the Nautitech 46 Open is above all a sailboat..

Our first visit on board showed a very fluid traffic with wide gangways. Inside, we liked the level of finish that has improved with each model. The sponge in the centre of the deckhouse, a simple stainless steel tube does not hinder forward visibility.

Given the commercial success of the 40 Open, it is likely that the 46, with a size at the heart of the multihull market, will follow in its footsteps.
