An unlikely victory for Artemis Racing after a collision

This weekend was one of the events of the America's Cup World Series. Bermuda, which will be the venue for the 35th edition of the America's Cup, served as a preview for the six competing teams.

The regatta of Saturday, October 17 cancelled

Saturday, October 17 was supposed to be the first day of the regatta. Unfortunately, once again, the weather conditions decided otherwise (it was already the case in Portsmouth, 1 re stage of the qualifications). The wind was too light to run the event so a Super Sunday was set up.

However, a demonstration race took place inside the port.

The race on Sunday, October 18th will have counted for more points than any Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series race to date. After Saturday's race was cancelled, a third race was added on Sunday. And all three races counted for double points, so up to 60 points could be earned on this "Super Sunday.

Artemis Racing returns to the game

Artemis Racing made an epic comeback on Sunday in the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series in Bermuda. But nothing was won, as there were three different winners in the three races. But Artemis Racing proved to be the most consistent competitor on the day to take the win.

"This event means a lot to us. We always knew we had the potential, but we were thrown off by mistakes." explained Nathan Outteridge, skipper of Artemis Racing.

But this victory was improbable. The Swedish challenger arrived in Bermuda in 5th place e place in the ranking out of six. And then, before the start of the second race, the team was involved in a collision with a referee boat, which resulted in serious damage. Like an F1 team, the Artemis team arrived to recover the broken bowsprit and the now useless code zero. After a quick reliability check and with less than two minutes to spare, the Swedes lined up at the starting line. Incredibly, they took the lead from the start of the race and went on to win the heat.

In the third and final race, the Swedish team achieved a fourth place finish, which gave them the points needed to win this Bermuda series.

It was a disappointing day for Oracle Team USA who won the first race, but posted third and fifth place finishes in the other two races. The Defender therefore finished in third place.

"We just had a bad third race." said skipper Jimmy Spithill. " We had a very bad start and were in the back the whole race. Artemis slipped in front of us near the finish, which cost us the 2nd place e place and allowed them to win the race. We made too many mistakes in this race, which put us out of contention for the win."

Emirates Team New Zealand, with an impressive victory in the third race, maintains its first place in the overall ranking. "We are so happy that we were able to put together some good performances this year." said Peter Burling, Kiwi helmsman.
