The SNSM advises to bring some safety equipment when sailing on board a pleasure boat. This equipment is not mandatory, but is nevertheless very useful. Here is the list.

When you go sailing, safety equipment is mandatory on board your pleasure craft depending on the area in which you are sailing. However, some equipment not listed is welcome on board and can be very useful during your sea trip. The SNSM has drawn up a list of additional products to take with you on each sea trip:

  • A VHF DSC, preferably (mandatory for offshore navigation at 1 er may 2015)
  • A knife
  • Some tools to make repairs on the boat
  • A pair of gloves, to avoid burns in case of hand fire
  • A watch
  • Tide directory
  • A box of spare parts including a fuel filter and light bulbs
  • Extra batteries to run your electrical devices such as your portable radio, flashlight and portable navigation devices.
  • For motorboats that are required to have one, a spare circuit breaker
  • Bring an isothermal survival blanket.
