Video - A Spanish cargo ship broken in two by the waves

On February 5, a Spanish freighter, the Luno, ran aground on a dike on Anglet beach before being broken in two pieces under the assault of the waves. Relive this spectacular accident, which fortunately did not cause any injuries, on video.

On February 5, Storm Petra raged on the Atlantic coast with winds recorded as high as 100 km/hour and troughs of 7 metres. The Luno, a Spanish freighter, immobilised near the Barre beach at Anglet, due to a technical breakdown, was then shaken dangerously by the waves before being thrown onto the dike. The swell then finishes breaking the boat in two.

The crew of 11, and one rescuer from a previous rescue session, were able to be hoisted in time and rescued from the sinking.

The forward part of the hull washed up on the beach.
