Portrait of Lalou Roucayrol, the multihull enthusiast

Lalou Roucayrol has been sailing since he was a child and has developed a passion for multihulls. He is participating for the third time in the Route du Rhum, which he considers to be a race dedicated to multihulls.

Lalou Roucayrol is a French sailor born in the Médoc region. This multihull enthusiast started sailing at a very young age, joining the Cercle Nautique du Verdon at the age of 6. At 50 years old, this professional skipper since 1985 still works in his region. In 2013 he decided to build his new trimaran and moved to Port-Médoc to assemble it on the banks of the Gironde, with the support of the company Strato Compo. Indeed, on his way back from the Route du Rhum in 2010, he was victim of a capsize and lost his boat. The arrival of a new sponsor Arkema and thanks to the support of the Aquitaine region he was able to complete his project and bring out a brand new 50 feet, launched in March 2013. This great competitor has participated in many events of the circuit: Course de l'Europe, Transat Jacques Vabre, Vendée Saint-Pétersbourg, Route du Rhumâeuros¦ and sailed on all types of multihulls: catamaran, prao, trimaran and is now tackling the Multi50. He is also a recognized figure in the Multi50 class.

He is not a novice in the Rhum since this 10 ème edition will be its 3 ème participation. In 2002, while participating in the Route du Rhum in particularly difficult conditions, he decided not to give up, while his competitors capsized and the solo competitors made stopovers to protect themselves. In 2010, he won the 2 ème place. The one whose greatest memory of the race remains Mike Birch's victory "the first time a trimaran won an ocean raceâeuros¦" explains about the Rhum "For me it's the multihull race."

His track record

In 2000, he finished 3rd ème of the F18 world championship, in 2003 he held the record for the longest distance covered (613 miles in 24 hours), in 2007 he came 4th in the world ème of the Transat Jacques Vabre, in 2008, he won the SNSM Trophy, in 2009, he came 3rd in the ème of the Transat Jacques Vabre and 4 ème of the Vendée Saint-Petersburg.
