A race that has gained fame since its inception
In 2002, the Ecole Navale associated with the French Navy, among other partners, decided to launch its own sailing event carried out on one-design sailboats. The gamble paid off as the event was a great success and a few years later, the French Sailing Federation decided to entrust the organization of its French Championship for the Promotion of One-Design Sailing. Thanks to this association of three major entities of the sailing world, the championship has gained in seriousness and prestige. While at the beginning, the Grand Prix had only 200 participants on 60 boats, this year 900 participants are expected in 190 boats, coming from all over France but also from a dozen European countries.
13th edition of the Grand Prix de l'Ecole Navale
During four days, in the bays of Crozon-Morgat and Camaret as well as in the port of the Castle, in Brest will take place the event labelled "French Championship for Promotional One-Design Sailboats" (CFPM). The French Navy, the towns and sailing centers of Crozon-Morgat, Camaret, Lanvéoc and Brest, in partnership with the French Sailing Federation, have once again entrusted the Naval School with the organization of this 13th edition, sponsored by Sailor Fabien Delahaye, member of the French military sailing team. The medals of French Champions will be awarded on June 1st, at the closing ceremony.
Numerous one-design crews will ensure the show
On the Poulmic waterfront, the J80s (more than 60 boats) will be present, as well as the radio-controlled sailboat event (VRC). Brest will host the new 24-foot one-design trimarans, the Diam 24s specialized in speed, and on May 29, a yawl race will take place near the docks, under the eyes of the spectators. In Crozon-Morgat, about 60 sailboats, 5.5M/J, Open 570, Corsaire and Seascape 18, will compete. In the bay of Camaret, the Longtze and Match 6.50 (sportboats) as well as the J70s will be admired. As for the J22s, they will compete for the 1st place of the European Championship.
This year, the Paralympic pole of the National School of Sailing and Water Sports and the French Handisport Federation will put disabled and injured people of the Defense in the honor. A regatta of Sonar sailboats (handisport sailboat) will take place on May 31 and the association " Ad Augusta "will sail wounded men and women from the Defense Department.
Discoveries, baptisms and initiations for non-aguerrians
A catamaran simulator on the forecourt of the Ecole Navale, comecat this event will allow you to discover the thrill of a sport catamaran. On May 29, rowing initiations will be organized and everyone will be able to get their first sailing experience. Prestigious sailboats, the America class, France , Penduick , Penduick 3 and Penduick 6 will also be at the dock and on a one-time visit.
Finally, will also take place the stand-up paddle competition, created since 2011, the Penn Ar Bed Paddle Race.
