Cleaning a PVC deck: a demonstration of the Flexi Kline by Matt Chem

A synthetic PVC deck eventually accumulates dirt. How can you clean it and restore it to its original appearance? In our ?Got a Minute?? series, Victor Nautisme tests Matt Chem?s Flexi Kline on a gray deck covering installed on a RIB. Watch the video demonstration.

A cleaner designed for synthetic teak-look decks

PVC deck coverings?whether they have a teak-like appearance or not?are an alternative to natural wood. While they do not require the same maintenance as teak, they still need to be cleaned regularly. Dirt accumulates on surfaces exposed to the elements and foot traffic from the crew, gradually altering their appearance.

In this new video episode of ?Do You Have a Minute??, Victor, from Victor Nautisme in La Rochelle, works on a gray synthetic deck with moderate buildup. He uses Matt Chem?s Flexi Kline, a concentrated cleaner formulated for PVC deck surfaces.

This product is designed to remove grease, gum, and soot, as well as plant-based deposits such as algae, moss, and lichens.

Adjust the dilution based on the condition of the bridge

Flexi Kline should never be used undiluted. Due to its high concentration, you must prepare a solution with water before beginning cleaning. For routine maintenance, Matt Chem recommends diluting 150 ml of product in 5 liters of water . This is the concentration Victor chose for this demonstration. The bridge is dirty, but its condition does not warrant a higher concentration.

On heavily soiled surfaces?particularly after construction work or transportation?the manufacturer recommends diluting 500 ml in 5 liters of water. This approach allows you to adjust the amount of cleaner to the task at hand, rather than always using the maximum concentration.

Apply with a sponge and rinse thoroughly

In the video, Victor uses a simple sponge. He soaks it in the diluted solution, then scrubs the surface to loosen the dirt. He also lets the product sit before rinsing. For larger surfaces, using a deck brush is recommended. Once the scrubbing is complete, Victor emphasizes the importance of rinsing with clean water. This step removes the cleaner and the loosened dirt, while preventing residue from being left on the deck.

A visible difference between cleaned and untreated surfaces

The value of this demonstration lies in the comparison shown at the end of the video. Part of the deck was cleaned, while the adjacent area remained in its original condition. The difference in color is visible. The treated gray PVC appears darker and cleaner than the uncleaned section.

Flexi Kline is compatible with gelcoat, paints, plastics, and light alloys.

Above all, this demonstration serves as a reminder that a synthetic surface requires proper maintenance. By using a solution diluted according to the surface?s condition, wiping it down with a sponge, and rinsing it thoroughly, the surface regains a cleaner appearance without the need for complex procedures.
