Nautor Swan launches construction of its first aluminum sailboat. The Swan Alloy 44 opens up a new range beyond the 40-meter class. This project is part of the industrial evolution of the shipyard and its shareholder Sanlorenzo.

With the Swan Alloy 44, Nautor Swan has taken another step forward, entering the segment of large aluminum sailboats, an area hitherto absent from its portfolio.

Entry into the 40-meter-plus aluminum yacht segment

The Swan Alloy 44, 43.5 meters long and 9.45 meters wide, is the first model in a new range dedicated to aluminum units. This positioning places the Finnish shipyard in the sailing superyacht market.

Construction began in the Netherlands, at Gouwerok, specialists in aluminum structures. The first operations concern structural elements, in particular the keel and the bases of the engine room. The transfer to Viareggio, Italy, is planned for outfitting and delivery, with a launch scheduled for 2028.

The project was designed by Malcolm McKeon, a naval architect renowned in the field of large performance yachts. The Swan Alloy 44 features a telescopic keel, with a variable draft from 4.30 to 6.30 meters.

This (very) large yacht offers a large interior volume, compatible with the standards of the superyacht market, while retaining a sailing-oriented approach.

The rigging has been entrusted to Southern Spars, while the sails will be supplied by Doyle, two well-known players in this segment.

Dual-energy propulsion based on recent developments

The Swan Alloy 44 adopts a dual-energy architecture, the in-house trade name for hybrid systems. This choice is based on work carried out by Sanlorenzo on its hybrid models, as well as on Nautor Swan developments on units 51, 88 and 128.

The stated aim is high energy autonomy, with on-board energy production and storage during navigation. This type of configuration meets a growing demand in the large craft segment, particularly in terms of energy management and consumption reduction.

For building sites and design offices, this implies a thorough integration of energy systems right from the design phase.

Industrial organization between Finland, Italy and the Netherlands

Although construction is divided between the Netherlands and Italy, technical management remains the responsibility of Nautor Swan. The Group's Italian design office collaborates with the Finnish teams on design and performance. This organization maintains consistency with the brand's standards, while integrating skills specific to aluminum construction.
