Swan 51, the revival of a symbolic yacht for Nautor Swan

43 years after the launch of the first Swan 51, Finnish shipyard Nautor Swan is to relaunch one of its symbolic models. Available in three deck plan versions, it is designed for coastal or ocean cruising, but also offers a sport version. Inside, customers can also choose from a wide range of options to personalize their unit. Launch is scheduled for 2024.

A symbolic model for Nautor Swan

The first Swan 51 contributed to the evolution of the Nautor Swan brand . Launched in 1981, it also marked the beginning of Swan's collaboration with architect German Frers. Based on the Admiral's Cup 51-footer Blizzard, the Swan 51 made its mark, with over 700 units produced. This partnership continues today with the new Swan 51, still signed by the historic naval architecture firm. Another emotional link for the shipyard is that the 1000th yacht built by Nautor was also a Swan 51. Named Formosa, it was the first yacht built by Leonardo Ferragamo, who now owns the Nordic shipyard.

A model inspired by the two smaller Swans, the 48 and 55

The new Swan 51 fills the gap between the Swan 48 and the Swan 55, and is inspired by their respective designs. It offers comfort and maneuverability solutions for both coastal and offshore cruising. The mast has been moved further to the center to improve balance. Shape and volume distribution within the hull have been improved, again for balance within the fiberglass sandwich structure.

Three different draughts

The bi-safran configuration was chosen to improve balance and preserve performance at the best heel angle of 20 degrees. Two draughts are available, with a 2.45 m keel as standard and a 2.05 m keel as an option. A performance version keel is also available, with a draft of 3.2 m. A bow thruster is fitted as standard on the Swan 51 for port and slow-speed maneuvers, as well as for single-handed sailing. The fixed bowsprit, inspired by recent Swan models, also houses the anchor.

The optional "double-action" transom offers a large bathing platform and facilitates storage of the tender in the garage.

Three deck and sail plans in the catalog

The deck layout of the Swan 51 offers three different configurations of layout and sail plan. The basic cruising version has a 147.1 m2 sail area. The Comfort version offers elements for pleasure cruising, as well as total cockpit protection. This option features the "Arch" concept, a first on a Swan. This arch acts as a mainsheet track to keep the cockpit clear, and as a support for the cockpit cover. This version is also available with a furling mast for the 145.8 m2 mainsail and a self-tacking staysail, particularly useful for short-handed crews.

The high-performance Sport version offers numerous options, including a carbon fiber mast 1.5 m taller and a 161.2 m2 mainsail with runners if you opt for a horn sail.

Customizable three-cabin layout

Inside, the large living room should be bathed in natural light and offers a C-square layout. The chart table, main table, seating and storage areas can be configured in a variety of ways. The galley is the same as that of the Swan 48 and 55, and is fully equipped for cruising.

The three-cabin layout includes a forward owner's cabin with private bathroom and separate shower. The VIP and guest cabins are located aft, with shared bathroom facilities.

The soundproofed engine hold is easily accessible and large enough to accommodate an optional generator. Several color and material options are offered by the shipyard, always with a view to customization.
