Placed in receivership last September, the association behind the project is launching a call for investors and buyers. The aim: to preserve a unique cultural, tourist and educational tool.
A frigate in receivership
Since September 18, 2025, the Hermione La Fayette Association, manager of the replica of the famous 18th-century three-master, has been in receivership. The situation marks a worrying turning point for this emblematic ship of maritime history and Franco-American cooperation, which attracts over 200,000 visitors every year.
L'Hermione, initially hailed as a model of heritage restoration, has suffered a series of setbacks in recent years. After a major refit in the port of Bayonne in 2022, construction defects and costly work have weighed heavily on the association's finances. At the same time, internal tensions and a lack of clarity in governance have slowed decision-making, accentuating delays and cost overruns.
A project in the public interest, but in jeopardy
Designated as a "Bateau d'Intérêt Patrimonial", the frigate enjoys national and international recognition. The association also owns nine trademarks, including "Hermione" and "Hermione-Lafayette", and develops training, research and cultural mediation activities. It currently employs 17 salaried staff and mobilizes 327 volunteers and members. But without external support, these missions could come to an end.
A call to investors and buyers
Based in Rochefort (17), the association invites interested buyers or investors to make themselves known to the receivers of SELARL FHBX, in Bordeaux. The deadline for submission of takeover bids is 12 noon on January 5, 2026.
