Warning: Tribord lifejacket recalled from Decathlon for buoyancy defect

Marketed throughout France since March 2025, an inflatable lifejacket from Tribord is the subject of an emergency recall. An identified defect in the bladder compromises the product's buoyancy, exposing its user to the risk of drowning.

A critical flaw in a safety model

The model in question is the LJ150N self-inflating lifejacket with integrated harness, intended for adults and referenced under item code 4855900. It was sold in Decathlon stores between March 1 and June 10, 2025. All lots sold during this period are affected by the recall.

The defect detected concerns the vest's internal bladder, a key component in its operation. In the event of repeated shocks, this bladder can become perforated, rendering automatic or manual inflation inoperative. In the absence of buoyancy, the wearer of the lifejacket is put at risk in the event of a fall into the water.

Recommendations for boaters

All boaters or users who have purchased this model are asked to stop using it immediately. The product can be returned to the store for a full refund. A hotline has also been set up by Decathlon for any questions: 0800710770. The recall will remain in effect until December 19, 2025.

This reminder underlines the importance of systematically checking onboard safety equipment, particularly before the summer season. For regular riders, we recommend models certified to ISO 12402 standards and subject to rigorous quality controls.

A fault already observed in other manufacturers

This recall is not an isolated case. In the past, other brands specializing in marine safety equipment have also issued similar recalls. Like a liferaft or airbag, the malfunctioning of equipment that is supposed to save your life is difficult for consumers to accept.

These incidents are a reminder that, despite the quality controls in place, some defects only come to light after large-scale use. This underlines the importance of paying close attention to the maintenance of your vest, and of having it serviced annually, even if this is not compulsory for private individuals.
