Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez 2024: innovations and organization for the 25th anniversary

In the run-up to the 25th edition of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, to be held from September 28 to October 6, 2024, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez reveals some new features for this prestigious regatta. Gone is the 2-week format, back to the traditional one-week festivities.

A quarter century of nautical passion

Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, an event eagerly awaited by sailing enthusiasts the world over. To celebrate this quarter-century, the Voiles de Saint-Tropez return to the classic format of regattas held over a single week. With a well-established but constantly evolving organization, this 2024 edition promises to be rich in novelties and challenges. The organizers, always seeking to improve, adapt the competition every year to meet the expectations of participants and safety requirements.

Maxi distribution: safety and performance

To manage the more than forty Maxis expected, the organizers have decided to divide the fleet into two groups according to their IRC rating, a measure that takes into account the boats' speeds and evolution capabilities. " The Gulf of Saint-Tropez is not expandable "says Georges Korhel, Principal Race Officer. This separation will allow banana courses for some and coastal courses for others, optimizing space and safety on the water. Wednesday's day off will be dedicated to sail changes, adapted to the different types of course.

New in the classics: Toners

This year, a new category appears among the classics: Toners. " These emblematic sailboats from the 70s and 80s, from the IOR class, will benefit from their own classification "explains Georges Korhel. This initiative responds to a trend observed particularly in Italy and throughout the Mediterranean, enabling crews to retain their bearings and enhance the pleasure of racing.

The 12m JI calls at Saint-Tropez

Spectators will also have the pleasure of seeing the 12 m JI boats, already present in May for the Pre-Worlds, return for the final leg of the 55th Coupe de France du Yacht Club de France. This exceptional fleet, at the heart of French nautical history, will add a prestigious note to the event.
