Lagoon Catamarans is committed to preserving the environment

Lagoon, the leading brand in the catamaran market, is committed to tackling environmental issues. This multi-faceted commitment ranges from boat design to the promotion of responsible sailing, with particular emphasis on the fight against ocean pollution.

5 pillars for sustainable catamarans

Flagship multihull brand, Lagoon like the rest of the Bénéteau Group, is committed to preserving the environment and the sea, so essential for yachtsmen. To this end, the company's Sailing for Change policy focuses on 5 major areas, throughout the life of the boat, from its construction to its use on the water:

  • Environmental certification of production plants
  • Sustainable materials
  • Eco-friendly on-board solutions
  • R&D on alternative propulsion systems
  • Support for sustainable and committed initiatives

Sustainable plants and materials

Even before sailing, the first environmental impact of a boat's life is its construction. To reduce this impact, Lagoon works on its first 2 pillars.

Lagoon's catamaran manufacturing plants in Le Poiré-sur-Vie and Belleville-sur-Vie in the Vendée, and in Bordeaux, France, have been awarded stringent certifications for quality, environmental management and energy performance. ISO 9001, ISO 50001 and ISO 140001 are proof of the company's efforts in this direction.

In addition to processes, the choice of building materials is essential. To this end, designers and purchasers work hard to find the products with the lowest impact, as found on the latest model, the Lagoon 51 . It uses FSC-certified Alpi wood for the interiors. Non-structural parts are made from natural hemp fibers instead of glass fibers, while resin is bio-sourced wherever possible. Upholstery fabrics can also be made from recycled materials.

Equipment for eco-responsible life on board

There's a lot of equipment on board a Lagoon multihull. Managing the production and consumption of both electricity and water is a yachtsman's first act of virtue. To help, Lagoon integrates numerous eco-responsible solutions on board. The Lagoon 51's huge XXL solar panels are the first example, with a production capacity of 2,700 W to power the yacht's comfort and service equipment. The choice of energy-saving equipment is another, as is the supply of ecological and biodegradable cleaning products on delivery.

A pioneer in electric propulsion with the Lagoon 420 Hybrid in 2006, the shipyard has continued its research, with the aim of soon offering complete and reliable alternative powertrain solutions.

Supporting virtuous initiatives

For Lagoon, the shipyard's role does not end with the delivery of the catamaran. The brand is involved on a daily basis in its efforts to involve owners in the fight to preserve the environment. Through Club Lagoon, it links up with partners running committed ecological programs, such as the Anima Mundi association. The loan of a drone is organized so that Lagoon owners can collect hours of overflight of water bodies. The videos are then processed to identify plastic waste and map coastal pollution, helping to combat this marine scourge more effectively.
