Strange symbols are sometimes found on nautical charts. The fish with a cross through it provides information for navigators. But which one?

Restriction zone

Restriction zones are marked on nautical charts by symbols and a frame delimiting the zone. These are areas where actions are restricted. For example, there are restriction zones for anchoring, diving or, as in our example, fishing. Restriction zones indicate that the practice indicated by the symbol is forbidden: anchoring forbidden, fishing forbidden, diving forbidden... Restriction zones also exist to delimit marine parks, for animal protection in particular.

Fishing prohibited

Thus, in the restriction zone marked with a barred fish, fishing is prohibited for all anglers, whether recreational or professional.
