The 10th edition of the S&S Rendez-Vous brought together 44 Swan yachts, all designed by the architectural firm Sparkman & Stephens. This international presence provided the opportunity to race for 3 days off the coast of Elba, to admire the boats designed by this renowned firm, and to pay a final tribute to Lars Ström, a friend of yachtsmen and head of the shipyard's technical office for over 30 years.

44 international Swans and a tribute

At the beginning of July 2023, an international fleet of 44 Swans, designed by the renowned New York law firm Sparkman & Stephens all over Europe - France, Italy, Belgium, Finland, etc. - gathered on the Italian island of Elba for a large-scale event. From all over Europe - France, Italy, Belgium, Finland... - but also from much further afield, including the United States, Brazil and New Zealand. At the same time, these boat-loving owners paid their last respects to the recently deceased Lars Ström, who for over 30 years was head of the technical office at the Finnish shipyard Nautor Swan.

Two coastal races in 3 days

The three days of racing saw the start of two coastal races. On the first day, light winds took the fleet off Capo d'Enfola in the Gulf of Procchio. On the second day, heavy thunderstorms forced the organizers to cancel the race. Finally, the last day of the race was marked by a beautiful sunny day and difficult sea conditions, with a west-north-westerly wind gusting to 20 knots. Competitors were nevertheless able to complete the 20-mile course.

Several categories of Swan sailboats

The yachts were divided into several categories: the Moby division, with the largest boats, from 46 to 65 feet; the Toremar division, with smaller yachts, from 36 to 44 feet; the Racing division, with boats of all lengths; and finally the White Sails division. The overall ranking was won by French owner Cesar Chauffart's Swan 44 Solano.
