Test / Prim 5.50 concept: A simple boat designed for electric power

Bagou Boats launches its first open hull, the Prim 5.50. It remains true to its core values, combining epoxy plywood construction and electric motorization for a simple, efficient boat.

A customizable plywood hull

Breton builder Bagou Boats has made a name for itself with its plywood-epoxy constructions. After a series of catamarans and its first ScootX electric scooters, the manufacturer remains faithful to this material for its latest model, the Prim 5.50. This open hull, 5.50 meters long and 2.20 meters wide, is built upside down on a dummy, then turned upside down. This minimizes the amount of tooling required, and makes it easy to respond to customer requests for customization. Jérôme Clément, the company's founder, confirms this, pointing out: "We can propose several layouts quite easily, and make the boat evolve."

A boat optimized for electric power

As with the rest of its boats, Bagou Boats has opted for electric motors. The hull has been designed with this in mind, to integrate the batteries as easily as possible into the bottom, which can be a challenge on boats of this size. From a hydrodynamic point of view, Bagou Boats' in-house team has taken great care to ensure fine water inlets to limit fuel consumption and preserve the Prim 5.50's range.

With its vast open deck, the Prim 5.50 can be used for a wide range of leisure activities. There's plenty of storage space for fishing rods, as well as relaxation areas for family day outings. The transom can be fitted with a variety of engines, depending on the customer's speed requirements, from the unlicensed 4 kW to the faster 12 kW.

The Prim 5.50's road-going dimensions, combined with a reasonable bareboat weight of 300 kg, make it a transportable boat that's easy to launch.
