Candela C-8 CC, a versatile center console version of the electric foiler

Candela is offering its 8.89-meter C-8 model in a Center Console version. For the shipyard, this is a real opportunity to reach a larger number of boaters with a versatile and flying boat.

The central consoles, the most popular versions with boaters

The Swedish company Candela is declining its second electric foil boat model, the C-8, launched in 2021, in a Center Console version. This type of boat represents a real opportunity for the electrification of boating, as the shipyard explains: "Center console boats for fishing, family boating and water sports are the most popular type of boat in the world - but also among the most fuel-consuming. This type of boat is among the best-selling in the world, with about 50,000 units sold each year in the U.S. and a number more worldwide."

Retractable foils

With its electronically controlled foils and underwater fins, the C-8 CC hovers above the water with an 80% energy gain over traditional V-hulls. Its range is approximately 57 miles at a cruising speed of 22 knots. For docking, the foils retract into the hull at the touch of a button on the touch screen. Once the foils are retracted, the boat can be stored on a trailer or beached.

Electronically controlled foils

Once on its foils, from 16 knots, the C-Pod engine turns silently. A flight controller ensures the boat's stability once airborne. A computer adjusts the foils 100 times per second, to ensure a stable and smooth ride in waves and chop.

Less power than a boat with a combustion engine

Compared to 28-29 foot deep-V hull motorboats, which often receive a 400 horsepower twin outboard engine, only 100 horsepower is enough to take off with 8 people on board. As for recharging the battery, the shipyard indicates that a full recharge is equivalent to 10 euros. The maintenance of the engine is to be carried out only every 3,000 hours.

A design for all programs

The C-8 CC offers an open foredeck with a bow seat and a console seat topping an enclosed head. In the cockpit, there is a wetbar, sofas that can accommodate 6 passengers around a table and a sunbed with its bathing platform and shower. For entertainment, there is a stereo system and 6 speakers on board as well as rod holders or a depth finder for fishermen.

High-end manufacturing and pricing

Made entirely of carbon fiber, the base price of the Candela C-8 CC starts at 330,000 euros and includes a 15.4-inch navigation screen. Free upgrades to the user interface and flight controller will unlock new features throughout the life of the boat. Orders begin as early as spring 2023, with deliveries scheduled for summer 2024.
