Contest 49CS, an offshore sailboat with a smart and neat layout

The Contest 49 CS, has a spacious aft cockpit, a dedicated owner's bow, but most importantly, it offers two twin cabins aft without taking anything away from the interior space, even retaining a tender garage.

Two sailboats of the same size, different desires

Contest Yacht manufactures luxury ocean-going sailing yachts, the latest two of which, the 49CS and 50CS, were presented at Boot Düsseldorf 2023. Although similar in size, the 49CS is 15.20 meters long and the 50CS is 15.46 meters long, the two yachts offer different interior and exterior layouts to allow for a variety of programs and meet different demands. The Contest 49CS is the only one in the range in this 50-foot size to offer two twin aft cabins. This feature was not present on the smaller 42 CS. It meets the needs of owners who prefer to have their cabin forward and welcome family and friends aft, in two cabins with good headroom and light thanks to the hull windows.

A cruising sailboat that combines comfort and navigation

The hull design is by Judel and Vrolijk. It maximizes the beam on the stern. This way, the transom unfolds to reveal a tender garage and serve as a swimming platform. The roof, with its panoramic glazing, lets a maximum of light into the interior. The rear of the cockpit is spacious, with two steering wheels with navigation screens and two electric winches on each side. In the center, a pod with pulley and electric mainsail winch allows entries on each side in the central cockpit, but above all avoids the presence of a mainsail track on the back.

The cockpit has two side benches and a central table. The large foredeck is clear and has three deck hatches. The two side rails are used to rig a headsail. Moving around is easy with wide side decks protected by a wire.

A bright and warm interior

Inside, the design is the work of the studio Wetzels Brown Partners. The companionway, equipped with handrails, leads to a spacious chart table on the starboard side as well as a large square with an L-shaped bench and its table, around which two removable armchairs can be added. The other side is occupied by a sofa and a storage unit. The galley occupies the side passageway with all the equipment expected on a 50-foot cruising sailboat: marine gas cooker with oven, large fridge, freezer, microwave, worktop and double sink. Access via the galley to the first cabin with twin beds on board.

On the other side, a bathroom with sink and shower is located in the starboard passageway, completed on this side by the second cabin with twin beds. The forward point is entirely dedicated to the owner, with a central double bed accessible from each side, a dressing room on the starboard side with a dressing table and a large bathroom with WC, separate shower and sink.

Quality finishes for life on board and cruising

In addition to comfort, there are numerous handrails on board, on the bulkheads, but also on the ceiling, proof of the boat's marine spirit. The finishes are of good quality, as are the materials chosen, as shown by the ribbed wood partitions offered as an option.
