Always more powerful
Following the launch of their largest outboard engine, a 600 horsepower V12 in 2021, Mercury Marine is launching the market's first naturally aspirated V10 powerhead with 5.7 liters of displacement. It comes in two power ratings of 350 and 400 horsepower. These two new V10s are equipped with large diameter Revolution X propellers.
Although outboard powered boats are increasing in size, the market is currently driven by the high-powered United States.
Ease of driving and improved handling
There are DTS digital controls, called Digital Throttle & Shift, for smooth reversals and instant pickups. Electro-hydraulic steering also makes driving easier and improves handling. Both engines feature the AMS mounting system, which isolates vibration and reduces induction and injection noise. The Adaptive Speed Control function maintains engine speed despite changing conditions.
It is also possible to choose the sound of the exhaust via the acoustic control function: quieter or louder.
For the moment, Mercury has not communicated the price of the new V10, but it has announced gains in noise, consumption, speed and weight compared to the competition. We'll just have to try these new powers to verify these claims.
