Poolewe is a small village located at the bottom of Loch Ewe, in the northwest of Scotland. The place is an excellent shelter except in north and northwest winds. Other anchorages are possible in the loch, notably at the beautiful sandy beaches of Eilean Tioram on the west coast of the loch, or near the village of Aultbea on the east coast. Spending a few days in the loch, between villages and beaches, is therefore highly recommended!

A large and well maintained anchorage
The anchorage at the bottom of the loch, in front of Poolewe, is very large. Sailboats are not likely to step on each other's toes. The sand and clay bottoms are shallow and of good quality. However, the river that flows into the loch generates some current, so avoid anchoring right at its mouth.

Many services nearby
Nevertheless, there is a small abandoned dock that allows the dinghy to be moored a few steps from the grocery store, the post office and a bar! There are small parks along the shoreline, perfect for children and picnics.

The village offers several places to eat and drink. For example, you can eat in the Pool House billiard room in a charming Victorian setting, or at the open-air tables of a food truck on the waterfront.

There are also a few craft and souvenir stores. A camping site and a swimming pool nearby, can be interesting when you want to take a good hot shower! Marked walking trails provide beautiful walks easily accessible from the shore.

A magnificent park to visit
The most interesting place is undoubtedly Inverewe Garden. A splendid park with more than 2500 species of plants including many exotic plants. This park was founded in the 19th century and has been continuously enriched ever since.

There is an entrance fee, but the visit is worth the price! The many paths that crisscross the area allow for a pleasant walk, but also the discovery of countless plants and flowers, including an extraordinary collection of rhododendrons. The park offers a treasure hunt perfect for children.
