Why should all children learn to sail?

Sailing is a school of life. It's totally cliché, however, far from virtual worlds, surfing is an opportunity to offer our children "real life". In a form of autonomy, in a small community, sailing teaches a taste for effort, solidarity, science, history, patience, respect for nature. In a resolutely subjective way, here are at least 6 reasons why all children should learn to sail.

1- Trust and confidence

Feeling able to move with the wind, an invisible force, will give children the confidence of a Jedi with supernatural powers. If I were Yoda, I would make sailing a fundamental subject to become a Jedi. Taming and using the Force with the skills and knowledge acquired will help young Padawans to accomplish difficult tasks throughout their lives.

2- The spirit of adventure

The adventure is at the end of the étrave?! Charting your own unique and singular path, discovering a sense of belonging to the world, finding your place on the ocean and riding a sailboat on its way to infinity and beyond... These are the seeds of adventure that should grow in the hearts of every child.

3- Discover other life forms

Going to sea takes us away from the world known to landowners. Surrounded by the vastness of the liquid, children quickly realize that life is teeming with diversity, where we could not breathe or even stand.

The alien world is within snorkel range and it's dizzying. Here our kids will be able to develop their imagination without hindrance. And if Flipper the Dolphin shows the end of his rostrum, be sure that this moment will leave a better memory than a PS4.

4-Tighten the links

To say that children are caught up in the digital world is a commonplace observation. But their elders are rarely a better example. For better or for worse, by entering the web, we cut direct links and concerts. Fortunately, sailing will save the world, or so we hope.

I don't know of any place where conversations, laughter and shared silences are played out as naturally as aboard a sailboat on the way or at anchor. A family, where everyone has their place to move the boat forward, will find the essential links to the union that makes it strong.

5- The taste of effort

Let's remember: "put away your chambre?!", "do your devoirs?!", "do efforts?!"... isn't that wonderful souvenirs?? Well... and yet it is very necessary for education.

Navigation is an excellent way to teach the concept of effort/reward through demonstration. The life on board, the tidying up, the organization, the physical efforts, the chores on board... The children quickly understand the purpose of these efforts which are quickly rewarding.

6- Anchoring feet to reality

Our children were born with digital, virtual, artificial intelligence, autocompletion, Photoshop and fakenews... Let's admit that they are better equipped than their elders to face the digital universe.

Let us take the time to create for them a balance between the natural world and the virtual world. This generation even more than the previous one needs to learn to disconnect and navigation is perfect for that.

There are many other totally subjective reasons why navigation is absolutely essential for the education of toddlers.

Go ahead with your suggestions, that's why the Comment section is here! Who knows, perhaps the Minister of Education will soon integrate sailing courses between science and literature.
