Edorado 8S, an electric foiling daybot for speeding

The Edorado 8S is an 8.40 m flying dayboat with an electric motor. Built by the Dutch company of the same name, the boat is expected to see the light of day in spring 2023.

Foils and electric motorization

For several years, co-founders Giel Groothuis and Godert van Hardenbroek have been working on the development of a dayboat with retractable foils and electric propulsion. The Edorado 8S with its 8.40 m weight only 1950 kg and its foils are automatically controlled by a system that adjusts the angle at least 100 times per second. The two 50 kW DC electric motors are integrated into the two rear foils and powered by a total of 80 kW of batteries. The shipyard announces 40 miles of autonomy at a cruising speed of 25 knots and a maximum speed of 38 knots.

A compact cockpit and a sunbed for relaxation

The design is by Ivo van Hulten, who has applied his years of experience in the automotive industry to this dayboat with its elongated bow and wraparound windshield. The large dashboard with three 15-inch screens monitors all performance, safety, navigation and entertainment data. The boat is also equipped with an impact safety system.

On the stern, a wrap-around sundeck faces the sea. A swimming platform with a swim ladder, camouflaged in the transom, deploys for swimming. A storage locker located under the sunbed allows you to carry various equipment. Still for leisure, the Edorado 8S is equipped with a wine cellar and Bluetooth.
