Vendée Globe 2024, the 15 skippers who will line up in IMOCA without building new boats

After an incredible Vendée Globe 2020/2021, the IMOCA class is more attractive than ever. While some fifteen new boats are being built, other skippers have decided to change their boats for the 2024 Vendée Globe, while a minority will be returning to the same IMOCA.

As we had announced to you, 15 new boats to be built for the 2024 Vendée Globe . These projects, designed to win, often require large operating budgets. Other skippers have chosen to swap their old IMOCA for a more recent boat, or even the very last generation like Hugo Boss bought by Alan Roura.

The discovery of foils

Alan Roura bought out the 2020 Hugo Boss VPLP plan with which Alex Thomson participated in the 2020/2021 Vendée Globe. As a reminder, this design is distinguished from the rest of the fleet by its closed cockpit. Thanks to new partners, notably the Swiss watch manufacturer Hublot and more recently the bank Bonhôte & Cie, which has become a major partner, the 29-year-old Swiss sailor intends to win on his IMOCA Hublot.

Romain Attanasio will sail around the world on a foiler thanks to its new partner Fortinet euros, which has joined its historical partners Best Western and Pure. The sailor has bought the ex IMOCA Malizia by Boris Herrmann, a 2015 VPLP/Verdier design upgraded with foils.

After a great performance on her first round the world trip she became the fastest woman to complete a solo round the world trip Clarisse Crémer still supported by Banque Populaire will sail on board Banque Populaire XII, the former IMOCA Apivia a Verdier design on which Charlie Dalin has won many victories.

Benjamin Dutreux has also achieved a very good round the world race on an IMOCA dinghy and despite a rather limited budget. Pip Hare received the support of the entire sailing community during her Vendée Globe, showing selflessness and courage while sailing an IMOCA launched in 2000. Still supported by Medallia, the sailor has recovered the former Valley Office 2 vPLP plan of 2015 upgraded with foils.

Damien Seguin also made his mark aboard Apicil, an IMOCA dinghy in the last Vendée Globe. Still supported by his sponsor, he acquired Master Rooster IV the last winner of the 2020/2021 Vendée Globe in the hands of Yannick Bestaven, the 2015 VPLP/Verdier design.

A newer foiler

euros on his arrival from the Vendée Globe, Louis Burton a acquired the ex-Occitane in Provence a 2020 Manuard plan now renamed Bureau Vallée 3.

Arnaud Boissière traded in his upgraded 2007 IMOCA for samantha Davies' former 60-foot monohull (Initiatives-C?ur). It is a VPLP/Verdier design launched in 2010 in the Foncia colors and equipped with very large foils. Make way for the new La Mîe Caline!

A return to the race

First sailor to complete the Vendée Globe without fossil fuels in 2017, Conrad Colman bought out the former V&B Mayenne of Maxime Sorel to line up at the start of the Vendée Globe 2024 and is looking for new sponsors to accompany him in this new adventure.
