Dismasting and rescue on the Global Solo Challenge

Ronnie Simpson, American veteran and participant in the Global Solo Challenge, has dismasted as the fleet sails through the particularly rough South Seas. Although the sailor was not injured, the wind and waves made the situation critical as he was 650 miles due east-southeast of Buenos Aires. He was rescued by the Taiwanese vessel Sakizaya Youth and had to bid farewell to his yacht Shipyard Brewing.
