In this second part of the Kaori 550 test, we look at the layout of this small sailboat, whose deck layout and interior design will make the adventurous yachtsman want to go camping along the coastline

A spartan but comfortable deck plan

If traditionally the second part of our tests leaves the beautiful part to the interior fittings, the cockpit is probably "the" most important room of the Kaori 550. We will therefore start with the layout and deck plan of this 5.5 meter sailboat.

A generous cockpit

Resolutely simple, in its equipment and its geometry, the cockpit of the Kaori 550 is of generous dimension. It comfortably accommodates two upwind crew members, or a third if necessary. A long footrest above the daggerboard well allows the crew to position themselves comfortably at the helm. The chamfer on the front of the seating area ensures a good seat for the helmsman. It does not slip, even when the sailboat's heel is high.

As for maneuvering and rigging, simplicity is also the order of the day, at least in the means used. To dispense with the mainsheet track, a double hoist is sent to each aft corner of the boat. No track either for the headsail. A 3D adjustment with a friction ring allows to adjust the angle of the jib sheet.

A large deck hatch at the rear of the cockpit provides access to a storage locker.

A spacious cabin for a 5.5 meter sailboat

The real surprise of the Kaori 550 in terms of ergonomics and layout is its cabin. If boats of this size are generally content with a storage volume with sometimes a semblance of a berth, the dinghy of Kaori Concept offers a volume that can really be fitted out. It takes advantage of the scow bow to gain living space forward.

Quite bright thanks to a double natural lighting provided by the access hatch and a circular deck hatch in the front of the roof, the cabin offers a real bed for 2 persons, at the current length standard. For those who prefer the great outdoors, the cabin can easily accommodate tents for camping on the beach while beaching the boat.

Real storage is offered, with side panels in wood and textile.

The treatment of the materials, revealing the wood of the hull and the mast sponge, give an elegant style to the interior of the boat.

Made to order, the boats can be partially customized.
