Silver Series: Photos of the sea and boats in an exhilarating diversity

Silver Series by Ewan Lebourdais

Freshly published, photographer Ewan Lebourdais' new book depicts the sea and boats in well over 50 shades of gray. From lovers of old wooden hulls to paddle and foil enthusiasts, there is something for everyone. A nice gift to offer, to yourself and to others!

A beautiful book about the sea

Holder of the prestigious title of official painter of the Navy, Ewan Lebourdais from Brest publishes his 4th collection of photographs. Called Silver Series, it offers a wide range of black and white photos in the maritime theme, around 6 chapters: Watergames, Seascapes, Merchant, Navy, Sailing and AeroNaval. The quality of the printing of the photos, with inks with silver reflections paying tribute to its title (Silver means silver in English) associated with a beautiful hardback cover make it an elegant object. It was awarded the prize for the best maritime book at the Festival Livre et Mer in Concarneau in 2021.

Water sports in artistic mode

Wingfoil, paddle, kitesurf, windsurf and the various foil leisure machines are rarely photographed with poetry. The photography usually highlights the sporty aspect and the dynamics of these sports with very colorful shots. Ewan Lebourdais's black and white counterpoint delivers an original vision, like the paddle in the rain.

Storms and lighthouses: a must

If the storm clichés are legion, they still have as much effect on the imagination of sea lovers. The same is true of lighthouses. Without revolutionizing the style, Ewan Lebourdais delivers very beautiful photos of waves breaking on the shore and original views of lighthouses.

The beauty of professional ships

Less present in the beautiful books, the merchant navy and military ships take a nice place in the Silver Series. Living in the port city of Brest, Ewan Lebourdais is obviously well placed to capture the images of the waves of a frigate's bow or the contrast between a container ship and the schooners of the French Navy. A chapter is also dedicated to the naval aviation by the author, a passionate reader of Buck Danny.

Sailing in all its forms

Finally, sailing is also present in the Silver Series. From Black Pepper to Pen Duick, from Ocean Fifty trimarans to foiling moths, sailboats of all generations are featured in charming portraits.

Through his variety, Ewan Lebourdais will be able to strike a chord with all maritime lovers. The only small frustration is the fact that the explanations of the photos are put at the end of the book in favor of geographical coordinates and texts that do not always add much to the picture.
