Antares 8, a versatile pocket cruiser for fishing and cruising

The Antares 8 replaces the Antares 780 and is positioned in the middle of the range. It gains in modernity and versatility, to meet both a coastal cruising and fishing program.

A versatile boat in full growth

The pocket cruiser market, symbolized by Bénéteau's Antarès range, is growing rapidly in France and Europe, but also in the United States, where it was recently introduced, and in China. It is mainly used on inland waterways in the latter two countries. Today, the clientele has changed, and the programs have expanded, as Yann Masselot, Bénéteau brand manager, explains.

"It's a small, versatile boat that will be used for both fishing and cruising, by working or retired couples, who will use it especially for coastal cruises of several days."

With the Antares 8 The French group is therefore targeting a wider market. That of cruising and fishing. In particular, to respond to the end of the Barracuda models, truly dedicated to fishing.

A more modern design and a greater autonomy

The Antarès 8 is a strategic product for Bénéteau, in the sense that it replaces the Antarès 780, which was one of the best-sellers of the range. It is 6.98 meters long and has the same hull characteristics as its sister boat. It also retains the codes of the range, although it benefits from an evolution in design - signed Sarrazin - which makes it more modern.

The Antares 8 has larger tanks - 340 L for fuel and 100 L for water - to offer more autonomy. It also includes a black water tank, which was not the case on the previous version. However, it retains the same power, namely a 250 hp outboard engine.

A modular family cockpit

The user-friendly cockpit is equipped with a cupola door that will be used for access to the boat as well as for the fishing catch. The access is flush from the bathing skirts of rather beautiful size. The aft bench seat slides back and forth to easily raise the engine, and contains a large storage area. The cockpit is very flexible with the addition of a folding bench seat on the starboard side (optional) and a front bench seat against the window under which a cooler can be placed (also optional). In the center, there is a new folding polyester table with handrail. In total, the number of storage compartments has increased to 3 - one central and two others on the sides.

Access to the foredeck and its sunbathing area is from the side decks, preferring the starboard side, which is larger than the port side. The stainless steel balcony allows you to move around safely while holding on.

A living space for the small cruise

Inside, the volume is rather large for two people. To starboard, the kitchen with sink and stove, to port, a dining area with a double bench seat. The backrest of the front bench seat can be folded down to enjoy the dining area as well as the sea view. By lowering the table and adding a central cushion, we also benefit from an additional double bed.

The cockpit is positioned on the starboard side and features a new black console and a new steering wheel. The pilot seat swivels to complete the saloon. As an option, it is possible to install an air-conditioning system without generator that will work between 3 and 4 hours, an equipment rather dedicated to the US market.

The front cabin is rather large and allows a couple to spend the night on board. The berths have been optimized compared to the previous version to gain in length and width. The headroom, although it does not allow you to stand up, is more than enough to change clothes. Finally, under the main saloon, another space can be used as a 3rd single berth for a child for example or as a huge storage space. And it is in this configuration that it will find its utility. Even if it is possible to remove a portion of the floor of the saloon to provide ventilation and lessen the impression of being in a coffin berth, the space is still quite narrow. However, the impressive length will allow for easy storage of luggage and other equipment. A toilet with shower completes the sleeping area.

The side windows are equipped with an opening for cabin ventilation, which can also be further enlarged.

A fishing version for the Antares 8

The Antares 8 is also available in a Fishing version, with a more versatile layout than that of the Barracuda. It combines a cockpit dedicated to fishing with the comfort of a cruising interior.

There is a fishing station on the back with all the functionalities you would expect from such an equipment. On board, there are 2 storage bins, 2 lure boxes, a folding bench seat, as well as storage for the lures that will be used while fishing. 5 rod holders are installed in addition to the two standard ones located on the back of the bulwarks. A port side livewell with water circulation and a port side storage area with a fish box complete the package. Finally, it will be possible to install a 12-inch screen on the outside with a depth sounder.
