The different solutions to dive under your boat hull

Do you need to check your anchor or remove a piece caught in your propeller or simply go for a walk to admire the sea bed? There are solutions available to you to breathe underwater as long as you want, without having to come back to the surface if you practice freediving. And you, which system do you use?

Leisure or security

For safety, for maintenance, or simply to admire the ocean floor, you may have to dive under the hull of your boat. A piece caught in the propeller? A net wrapped around the keel? A hull cleaning? Reefs to explore? Fish to catch? There are many reasons why you may need to go and inspect the living works. Don't forget to bring a good wetsuit depending on the water temperature and the duration of your immersion. In water, the body cools down 25 times faster than in air.

If you have the possibility, stop at the port or at the anchorage, otherwise lower the sails and put on the cape in case of a security operation.

Now, you will have to dive and breathe underwater as long as necessary. There are several solutions to avoid having to come back to the surface regularly (apnea). Don't forget your mask or goggles, which are essential for seeing in salt water. You can also equip yourself with a lead belt to help you reach the depths.

The hookah

Narguilé
Hookah

It is an electric compressor which can be connected directly to the battery of your boat. It sends air to the diver through a hose and a regulator. Depending on the length of the hose, you can go deeper or shallower in the water, to check your anchor for example. The duration of the dive is unlimited since it uses the ambient air, provided that you have batteries to power it.
